A Thread About Absolutely Nothing! Part II

I am so worried myself about Millie (the cat with diabetes.) She is not coping well. We have spent so much time -- on the phone and in person -- with the vets. Not including phone calls, we've made 6 vet visits between her regular vet and emergency vet in the last 3 weeks alone. She is not eating, not drinking, not using the litterbox. I don't know what to do next for her !!!! :(

Aw man!! I hope she gets better soon.

Kids will be fine. Daughter's allergies are worse here in FL than they were in MO, but we hope the new house will be better. No carpeting. Son knows better than to go out in the extreme heat we had today without taking his Advair. Luckily he has his rescue inhaler with him.

And it seems too, for me, that my allergies have gotten awful in the past 6 months. If I can make everything work out with my $$, I am going to rip up all carpeting that there is (some of the house is hardwood flooring or tile already) and replace it with non-carpeting. I do think that will make a difference! So I feel for you too.

I am so sorry about your troubles and concern. I have never had an animal with diabetes, but my brother had juvenile diabetes, and eventually died from the complications. It can be a frustrating illness to manage for caretakers and victims alike.

I'm so very sorry about your brother. That's truly awful.

We found out a month ago that Millie had diabetes. The first 2 weeks seemed perfectly okay. Just an adjustment to food and insulin. The past two weeks, it has fast gone downhill from there. I'm just hoping that we can make her comfortable and get past this.

Thanks for the condolences; it has been 8 years now, so I have gotten beyond it.

Sometimes it takes awhile to get the insulin dosages just right. Hang in there. I know you are doing all that you can.

I am sorry about that.

I am sorry about that.

Thanks. Like I told AC, it has been 8 years, so I have gotten beyond it. I only brought it up to empathize over the difficulty of helping someone you love to manage the illness.

Tonight I identified myself as moderate-severely deaf and was corrected. I was told that I should never use the word "deaf" when describing my hearing loss, that I should say "hard of hearing". The person who corrected me is not at all hard of hearing, deaf, an audiologist, or associated with deaf culture. Their statement infuriated me. I began telling them that I was using the term correctly and that I could call myself whatever I wished. I was told that deaf meant "you can't hear at all". I explained to them that there were different types of deafness, that while some deaf people are unable to hear anything at all, there are some people who are only partially deaf and can hear some things. I was told to calm down. I guess it fell on deaf ears.

 People can be foolish. Hopefully you won't have too many encounters like that.

Here, too, dang it. I am so ready for some nice spring weather. Looks like we are going to go from winter straight into summer.

I think you are right. And I really hate the hot summer!

The heat really seems to zap my energy levels, especially with the MS. But I love the spring and fall.

Me too. I am trying to convince my husband Portland or Seattle are perfect retirement destinations, although that is still a long way off.

At least there is air conditioning. :P

Oh, that doesn't sound good. I hope Millie will improve soon!

Try Portland, it's a good place to go/live/whatever.

Yeah we want to move to Washington or Oregon someday. Iowa is not that exciting to us. There's so much outdoor opportunities in WA state.

I know that Iowa weather is extreme cold. Some tornadoes hit there every year. I hope both of you will return back to Pacific Northwest state.

Yeah...the most exciting about Iowa is the severe storms and COLD winters!

Most exciting about Washington state is of course...mountains, Seattle, outdoor activities, etc.

I have a good friend that moved to Portland a couple of years ago. I have thought about following him many times!:P
