Ask that he give you a copy of his sermon notes before each sermon. Flat out tell him that you are missing his sermons if nothing is provided in print.

I've tried, but he feels that I am not really deaf and says that I should stop faking. the church is looking to replace him, but I'm not holding my breath. He's been there for the last 31 years.

Where does this man of the cloth get his nerve to say something like that to you?

Bust his balls a bit and give him a copy of your audiogram and that if he cannot trust his congregation the way his congregation trusts you, then he needs to pack up and leave. Jesus would have never doubted his followers the way this minister has doubted you. I've done this on occasion. They don't like it, but they soon realize that they are there to SERVE, not to be served.

Give him your freaking audiogram and tell him not to be such a jerk.

Change churches...Doesn't matter if it is the family church for generations (mine has been in the same church for over a century). If the pastor is like that family should understand and support a family change.

yeah if it came to that, I'd change churches too. why fighting with pastor? and not getting anything out of it anyway? change churches

He shouldnt be a pastor if he is going to disrespect you like that.

Worst of it is, he just got fitted with his first hearing aid. Has nerve damage in one ear and now he feels that he is "stone deaf". I asked him about his level of loss, it is still in the mild-moderate range. He has seen my audiogram, but still doesn't believe. It's from an "inferior" state of Missouri.

He's not worth anymore effort. MIL will not understand changing churches. She's been at this one for 48 years and refuses to change. I will most likely just continue to drive, but sit in the car during service until we ever get a new pastor. I can read my bible and do my own studying. I have my grandfather's and great-grandfather's sermon notes from Aussieland, so I can use those and go from there.

I joke that he got his education and rights to preach from the Eagle Army Navy store here in town. He never went to college that we can tell or that I know of. He had to have some training, but with the Church of God, it's hard to tell.

At least I have my beliefs and I was raised with very strong beliefs and I know where I am going and whom I serve.

I don't think she even need to show him anything. Kristina, Tell him that you will pray for him to open his eyes :)

In either case, it's not his place to determine if she is deaf or not, he should have gone out of his way to assist her. Better yet, he should step down to someone who REALLY wants the job!

Just got back home! Was in Plant City all day shopping and went out to eat. Got a sneak peak of the Strawberry Festival. Will take the kids this Sat.
