A Motorcycle Thread About Absolutely Nothing!

3.2 gallons and 57 mpg. that's about 180 miles.

and you have no problem paying over $60 gas refill for your truck for same distance?

you want a fast motorcycle rated for 90-100mph? no problem. plenty of powerful motorcycle with 1000cc.

but be sure to set up life insurance and also make an advanced payment & preparation for your funeral :)

No, I'm easily broke, that why my relative is helping to pay all of gas until I'm moving to DC in July and gas price for truck was $90 with fill the 26 fuel capacity so took all of tank in one week when commute to school.

I haven't tested to ride on fast motorcycle so don't know to say, however some people are uncomfortable with fast motorcycle but no problem with car.

gasoline is very heavy and affects your handling big time.

yep.

foxrac - do you have emergency gas tank? It's usually 2-gallons or 5-gallons. Try carrying it to get some idea.

my gas tank is 4 gallons and I refill once a week when commuting to work. Only 24-miles roundtrip. Last year, I pay $9 per refill. This month... $11... It's still better than $90

that's because car has windshield, airbag, seat, heater/AC, radio, etc. :dunno:

but then.... more people die from fast cars than fast bikes....

Sure, asshole people are damn good with budget and savings. ;)

I hate Alabama, anyway and living in semi-rural sucks, I prefer to live in urban that is shorter commute and more convenient to anywhere, that what DC is for.

About most fatal in fast cars than fast bikes, because of few people are ride on bike or bikers have better attention than drivers in car?

FYI, I lived in the DC Metro area for 13 years, which was 10 years ago. There is no way in hell I would commute to work on the DC beltway/270/95 on a bike today.

And, keep this in mind: Just because a MC gets 50MPG, it doesn't necessarily mean it will cost less to commute on. Tires are $100-$130 apiece and only last 5000-8000 miles if you are lucky. Chains require frequent maintenance. Brake pads...5000 miles under heavy braking. Safety clothing, boots, helmets, etc are not cheap. Depending on the bike and where you live, insurance can be expensive. Neighbor is 33 years old and pays $1100 per year for his Ninja 600R, which is a sportbike.

Motorcycle shops charge a LOT of money to work on our bikes...yes, even though our bikes are smaller than cars.

Being stuck in stop & go traffic in 90 degree weather on a MC will make you suffer from heatstroke.

Lots of things to think about. This is usually why most hard-core Harley riders look so miserable...

Oh I see, wow but interesting.

In DC, I will use public transportation but some people said some stations are dirty, bunches of rats so I don't know if I have to believe them because I just want to see on my own so I don't think it is big deal, anyway.

Yup, I had seen Harley riders before and they are hardly to smile.

I used to use that beltway to get to New England. It was horrible even in a car.

Now we drive way around. It is longer but no traffic nightmares.

Although I have only 4,000 miles on my bike and the tires look new. I can handle the replacement of two tires when it is time. My Jeep's four tires cost me $600. They were not special, just exact replacements.

Yes, initial cost for clothing and equipment is there, those items should last you many years depending on how you take care of them.

Now, insurance. Mine is $220 for full coverage including towing. Is your neighbor's bike the reason for the high insurance or is it because he has many tickets or accidents or DWI to affect it?

I would rather have a happy, well paid mechanic working on something that I depend my life on, than an unhappy one who will cut corners or just does not care. The mechanic is working to pay his rent/mortgage, food, electricity also. People pay what I ask for in my business to get the best bang for their buck. :)

I called my video camera company today. I have been worried about what they would say. :Ohno:

After explaining how it went airborne, he told me that they would send me a new bracket and camera housing no cost. :laugh2:

He confided that their company has had numerous problems like that. And recommended adding fishing line to it to prevent future launches.

YES, YOU TOLD ME SO! YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

or could be based on zip code, area with numerous traffic accident, auto theft, crime, vandalism could make insurances go up for both of cars and MC.

if you get textile gear - you most likely will have to replace it every year or couple years depending on frequency. The most common replacement is gloves. That's why some people spend extra for leather gloves especially deerskin. It lasts quite a while longer than textile gloves... and it felt very heavenly when I put it on.... love the Lee Parks gloves.

yes and no. but high insurance cost is really dependent on your location and motorcycle's cc. if you live in NYC... yep it's thousand bucks a year.

Couple years ago - I was on craigslist to search for motorcycle just like mine. I went to Manhattan to meet up with couple of people and test-drive it. Then I asked them how much they were paying for insurance. My eyeballs fell out. It was one of the reasons why they were selling it. They wanted to get a smaller and cheaper scooter. I liked this guy's bike so I bought it (couple thousands cheaper than what he was asking for :D ) and then... my insurance coverage was only $243 a year.

I commuted via Metrorail, I never had an issue with dirty stations. Bus stops have their nasty stations, no matter which city you live in, however, if you are riding the bus in the Northwest section of DC, most people are decent. It is the Southeast section that I would be concerned about.

Biggest reason is the "R" designation, which means "racing". This thing is a crotch rocket. Even though it is only 600cc, it will do 55MPH in first gear, and will hit 100MPH in about 5-6 seconds. Secondly, insurance rates in DE are very high, since the state favors customers more than companies. Plus, DE has no helmet laws over 18, so many companies will not insure motorcycles here.

Me too. Decent & thorough mechanics are hard to find, though.

The cheapest new Harley is about $8000, and does not have anything optional, so it costs another $2000-$4000 to make it stand out, plus H-D clothing is another $1000, then you have high insurance, their bikes will shake the fillings out of your teeth, and you have to pay $500 every time you take it in the dealership for its 10,000 mile checkup.

No wonder they don't smile much....

Most of my friends and family who own a motorcycles (Honda, suzuki, etc) and they made negative about HD for overprice.

But one funny thing, I knew one person who own HD with 1500cc and he do smile a lot. :dunno:

Tell him to get a Suzuki Boulevard 1300cc with everything thrown in for $8k or Get Suzuki Boulevard R109C 1800cc (one have wide rear tire) for $11k

Which is cheaper

just suggesting.

I like Harley but didn't like the position of shock absorber, I got bruises on my leg when I got on friend's Harley. That's why I fell for Suzuki cuz it have inner rear shock. Look sexier

I did look through Craiglist.org for Harley and they're overpriced for used one. Suzuki was the most reasonable and my friend who own Chopper admitted that Suzuki is very reliable and low maintenance. His Chopper with Harley V-twin is having problems and require maintenance. He was jealous when he heard that I rode motorcycle with big grin out on a beautiful day. he was :pissed: already.

I agree that Harley are overpriced. It's just the namesake they profit from.
