The cheapest new Harley is about $8000, and does not have anything optional, so it costs another $2000-$4000 to make it stand out, plus H-D clothing is another $1000, then you have high insurance, their bikes will shake the fillings out of your teeth, and you have to pay $500 every time you take it in the dealership for its 10,000 mile checkup.
No wonder they don't smile much....
I agree that it cost $$ to buy first motorcycle. I already spent over $5000 on my motorcycle, insurance, accessories, helmets, gloves, crashbar, iridium sparkplugs, tires, tubes, filters ect.. But one thing I didn't spend a cent was new motorcycle jacket that my dad gave me for free. He said he got it from his friend and passed it along to me. I should have grabbed 2nd one. It's just a plain black nylon jacket without cuff and have zippers on arm, breast, sides. I would love to have Leather one!! My next goal are Highway lightbars, windshield, chaps and kuryakyn pegs.
Rough running engine,
It all depends on what type of Harley engine. I've ridden friend's 74' Harley Sportster and it doesn't shake at all. It was smooth going. It is a bored 889 engine. I don't know how much horsepower it provided after cylinder was bored. The the former Owner doesn't know either cuz he did the job. Some Harley runs rough due to either improperly balanced crankshaft or belt between engine to tranny may not be balanced correctly. Some Harley runs smooth and is well balanced.
So It doesn't means that all Harley are rough running. You might ask Harley dealer about smooth running engine and I'm sure that he'll let you try riding it.
OR Perhap that rider prefer rough engine so he can show off that he's tough biker. How about riding Harley on -10 degree outside waring trunk shirt, jean and cowboy boot?? No jacket, no gloves ect. I've seen guy whiz past by me and I went :jaw: Bet he's already a Popsicle when he arrives in bar.
