A Motorcycle Thread About Absolutely Nothing!

The cheapest new Harley is about $8000, and does not have anything optional, so it costs another $2000-$4000 to make it stand out, plus H-D clothing is another $1000, then you have high insurance, their bikes will shake the fillings out of your teeth, and you have to pay $500 every time you take it in the dealership for its 10,000 mile checkup.

No wonder they don't smile much....

I agree that it cost $$ to buy first motorcycle. I already spent over $5000 on my motorcycle, insurance, accessories, helmets, gloves, crashbar, iridium sparkplugs, tires, tubes, filters ect.. But one thing I didn't spend a cent was new motorcycle jacket that my dad gave me for free. He said he got it from his friend and passed it along to me. I should have grabbed 2nd one. It's just a plain black nylon jacket without cuff and have zippers on arm, breast, sides. I would love to have Leather one!! My next goal are Highway lightbars, windshield, chaps and kuryakyn pegs.

Rough running engine,

It all depends on what type of Harley engine. I've ridden friend's 74' Harley Sportster and it doesn't shake at all. It was smooth going. It is a bored 889 engine. I don't know how much horsepower it provided after cylinder was bored. The the former Owner doesn't know either cuz he did the job. Some Harley runs rough due to either improperly balanced crankshaft or belt between engine to tranny may not be balanced correctly. Some Harley runs smooth and is well balanced.

So It doesn't means that all Harley are rough running. You might ask Harley dealer about smooth running engine and I'm sure that he'll let you try riding it.

OR Perhap that rider prefer rough engine so he can show off that he's tough biker. How about riding Harley on -10 degree outside waring trunk shirt, jean and cowboy boot?? No jacket, no gloves ect. I've seen guy whiz past by me and I went :jaw: :eek2: Bet he's already a Popsicle when he arrives in bar. :cold:

Checked the mailbox today and there was a small box. Inside was my new Tachyon XC camera case and bracket.

One small screw to remove. It slid out and I put the camera in the new case. Two minute conversion. It works great. I love that company. They were great on the phone. He said it would be mailed out when we hung up. No cost to me. :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

I have a lot of spare time, think about want learn to how to ride on motorcycle and study on motorcycle manual to get M on my driver license but... damn to retinitis pigmentosa (RP) or usher syndrome, I cannot think about it because my vision seems little worse now.

After done with recent 2 tests, I decided not to learn about motorcycle because my retina specialist declared me as vision impairment and no longer safe to drive because upper eye has been degraded and have night blindness too, however my specialist said if I cannot stop the driving for now so I need be very careful but driving at night must be avoided because of legal issue, someone who is responsible of car accident could end up to ask lawyer and have court to order me to reveal my medical record so if they find usher syndrome or RP so it will be my fault and order to permanent surrender of driver license.

No matters if someone is running beyond stop light and hit on me so it will be my fault, unless someone accept their fault and not get lawyer to against on me in court.

I'm sorry that you got bad news about your vision.

Yup, it was very sad day for me but I can watch the racing on tv or on video or play racing game on PC and PS3.

I have 1 semester to left so I will be off to Gally and no more drive needed.

Foxrac - I can't believe what I am reading it. I am sorry about your vision. Damn it. I think that you should start to ride a real dirt bike for your pleasure as a hobby soon the better before your vision starts worse. Please learn about the stem cells that might save your vision. I think that most stem cells are not full cure yet but they could be ready in a few years.

Sorry about that. You won't worry about travel at DC anymore.

today... I dropped off my bike to my mechanic for routine maintenance and borrowed his loaner bike - 1986 Yamaha Radian

ugh! awful! carburetor. shock absorbers & suspension. short height. narrow handlebar. small crampy seating position. When I got my bike back.... I was so happy. The comparison between my bike and Yamaha Radian is like a heaven and earth.

I like my bike tall, handlebar wide... fuel-injection engine... dirtbike-like suspension... that's why I stick with only Dual-Sport category.

what a pleasant chilly day. went out riding to teach my friend and escort her to her apt in NYC from NJ.

I learned that another friend skidded over a gravel road a few days ago and went off the road. He cracked a few ribs but is otherwise okay. I wonder how he feels about bikes now?

I just had a nice warm day riding on motorcycle few days ago. My motorcycle ran beautifully and satisfied with Idle jet tweak. My neighbor have Harley Sportster (looks like 2003-05 model) and it look like he's tuning up his bike. I guess I tempted him to break out his bike and get it up and running. He haven't used his bike for a long time. My wife told me that last year, he rode it few times.. One morning, I rode bike to work and he was driving truck alongside me for 3 miles. I bet he would ride to work like I do soon.

Ouchie!! I bet it hurts!

I nearly skidded yesterday when I rode over to Asphalt plant area. I nearly going into big pothole and I squeezed front brake and tried to turn a bit, my bike front wheel slid and I immedialy straightened out and missed the pothole. Luckily, I rode 10 mph and road was covered with fine grits of asphalts from the Plant. My young son was riding on mustang seat. :dizzy: It seem interesting that front wheel slid slowly while motorcycle tilt slowly. It's not like what I experience with moped with skinny wheels and slid and dropped it in a seconds!! :eek2: Guess fatter wheels helps big time.

LOL...keep in mind that you are comparing a 25 year old bike to a new one. I love the sexy looks of old-school bikes.

yike :Ohno:

I replaced my back brake pads this week. What a rip off. $37 for two tiny pads no bigger than the length of my fingers. Replaced at 4,800 miles. The front two brake sets are still like new. :D

I have a one-ton commercial van. Brake pads $20 with lifetime replacement. I'm on my 4th replacement. Still only the $20 initial investment.

Another PGR mission last week. They don't get any easier. An Army soldier who was shot 10 times in Iraq in 2007, returned home near here. He had been thorough numerous surgeries.

He died last week from complications from the shooting. Leaves behind a wife and two sons 6 and 2.

The PGR was there when he returned to SC. He never forgot it. He told his wife that when he dies he wanted the PGR there for his funeral. We stood a flag line last Wednesday evening at the viewing. Thursday morning, four large bikes led the procession of the hearse, immediately family, then about 10 more vehicles followed by the rest of the PGR. Rode the 50 or so miles to Beaufort National Cemetery. Flag line around the service of one hour. Large turnout.

I saw a man from a road construction crew stop and stand still with his hand over his heart as we passed. Also while we went through the city of Beaufort, a pickup truck moved out of our way and blocked the intersection from cross traffic while we rode through nonstop. :aw: There was no police escort on this run.

That's respectful of those who are "ouside" of funeral procession.

Yes. It reminds me of my dad when I was little. He would stop on the side of the road and wait for a funeral procession to go by (either direction). Cutting in or passing a procession was a no no.

Today there is little respect.
