A cochlear implant story

Perhaps signing does improve one's understanding of English, after all!

Hearing babies learning signs DOES help language development. See the other thread.

In my dreams all babies start with signs, then ASL (or BSL etc), then maybe speaking. It makes sense to me, but maybe no one else! :D

:laugh2:

I like it when people use fancy words cuz it helps me with how to put those kinds of words into use. I guess I am always finding ways to improve my literacy skills.

I'm not sure you really get the point Shel. I really don't care if some feel the need to make their posts understandable for the majority. Many who probably either don't have time or interest in running to a dictionary in order to understand. Doesn't matter to me because I can follow along pretty well and yes put the word into context. But really I have other things going on in my life that improve my skills and when participating in a general discussion will not necessarily pay attention to those who like to throw out words that only help to confuse the issue. But again. whatever floats your boat. :)

I cant judge for you. Only I can judge for myself and it is what I like. Doesnt mean I am applying it for others.

We are all different and I am not criticizing anyone here.

I know Shel. :) I was just trying to point out the limitations of message forums and the fact that people sometimes don't have the time to run around finding out the meanings of things when they 'could' be decribed in more everyday language.

Have a good night. Gotta go chase some kids around. :)

Does anyone else see the irony in this?

We have 2 hearing posters complaining about not being able to understand the words I use or the way I use langauge. They complain that the words are "too big", and that my language use is an attempt to make them feel inferior.

And yet, those deaf posters, who have often been accused of not being able to understand written English or to be able to properly use written English--specifically, Cheri, Angel, shel, and maria--as well as numerous other deaf posters, seem to be able to understand what I write extremely well. And, go figure....the deaf posters I have mentioned are all signers!

Angel,

I don't know all the fancy words- could you please explain to me what "denotation" and "connotation" means, please? in some simple words..

Fuzzy

True, This forum here is good education for us to learn and moviate something new everyday.

Angel, I already looked up the dictionary but this is too technical - I need to have it explained in simple words - can you, please?

Please, don't play head games. Ok ? Who ever posted these words, ask that person.

MODS: Please make note that, up above, I warned Fuzzy about trying to start up another round of bickering...if what she's done these last several posts isn't trying to start something, I don't know what is. If this turns ugly, please deal with her and her only; we have already lost a couple of lengthy and valuable threads as it is. Thanks.

butbutbut - I thought you CAN, because:

And yet, those deaf posters, who have often been accused of not being able to understand written English or to be able to properly use written English--specifically, Cheri, Angel, shel, and maria--as well as numerous other deaf posters, seem to be able to understand what I write extremely well.

I was hoping one of you could explain the meaning of those two words, then, PLEASE?

Fuzzy

I agree. I believe she is startin' another " belittle " others again by askin' these stupid question.

Mod Note:

It's time to stay back on course to which this thread is concerned with....

(if certain 'words' bedazzle one's mind, use a dictionary or there are plenty of on-line sites that can elaborate on its meaning)

Also, discerning a form of mockery here and that will 'not' be tolerated.
