I have a feeling before all is said and done there will be a global facepalm at Japan. You would think as serious as this is, Japan would be calling upon the best of the best international nuclear engineers to come in and handle this situation. I assume that TEPCO is the equivalent of Entergy working at ANO??

Seems so.

How do we know that hasn't happened, Dix?

From what I've read online and in the newspaper, TEPCO is the only personnel on site at Fukushima at this time.

Which also leads me to another question:

How does the US NRC know there is no water in the spent fuel rod pool? :hmm:

Japanese is not doing it alone. They're doing it in collaboration with IAEA and NRC. This is too big for Japanese to do it alone and this is an international crisis.

they are and it's not easy because remember - tsunami wiped off everything off the map. How are you going to wire a power line thru there? Not that easy. Its backup generator and everything are currently flooded because it was in basement. How are you going to pump it out with no reliable electricity?

I am surprised that Japan had the best technology than any countries to prevent the explosive. It's obvious that it failed a big time. Now, I think that we should start the alternative energies instead of any kind of nuclear on our Earth.

Oh boy, I think that we will eat radioactive seafoods soon.

I never said it was easy, I am only going by what I have read and heard on the major American news networks and state newspaper. I read that TEPCO was the only personnel on site, but now apparently that is not the case. Somewhere, someone misreported.

I understand this is an international crisis, I am only commenting from a civilian standpoint that is half a world away, literally. There's not a lot I can do except read/watch what is being reported in the media.

eh... it's a fact - we can never win against the nature. simple as that.

try checking out international news and nuclear organization sites.

it's always possible that Japanese is trying to play it down to save face :dunno:

Nuclear energy is the alternative to petroleum and coal energy. Which do you want?

I think the relative absence of looting over there has something to do with them as a society....something about conformity, discipline, spartan living, etc

No, it's about them having a mentality of looking out for the common good of our fellow citizen.

In America, we call that "socialism."

I want nuclear energy. The Japan incident does not sway my opinion on this at all.

In contrast, coal burning electricity plants (which generate 45% of the US's electricity, and similar amounts in the rest of the world) have contributed to much more illness and death in just the United States than all the nuclear incidents in the world combined.

Furthermore, the reactors in Japan are very outdated. They should have been taken offline years ago (or retrofitted). Modern nuclear energy technology is much more advanced and safe. This whole thing never would have happened if the equipment Japan was using wasn't 30+ years old. I blame Japan for this. 100%, and if there is a major radioactive incident, they are solely responsible for it. THIS WAS PREVENTABLE.

Also, how in the hell did those diesel generators fail? You know, the ones that were supposed to power the emergency cooling systems???

Nobody seems to be answering that question...

No, it's only socialism when it's forced externally by the government.

That's not what Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity would say...

Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh have described this event as 'payback'. I have absolutely zero respect for either of these idiots.

100% FALSE...... Yes you see the citizen's looking out for other citizens. That is a beautiful thing.

We call it "socialism" when it is done by the government.

you forget about flash flood in Des Moines.... and more....
