I have never met a professional (or parent) who sees their child as only defective cochleas. That is incredible offensive.

Never said a majority. I simply said that there are Deaf parents who choose CIs and oral schools for their deaf children.

And it is really crappy that you imply that they are wrong and that they are overly influenced by the medical establishment just because they chose differently than you did. I guess you know more than hearing and Deaf parents.

Honestly? I doubt it. I can totally see an ENT jumping to implant his or her profoundly deaf 6 mos old if they met the criterior for a CI.

It's a very common phrase. It simply means that someone is very draining as to cause exhaustion. I've known a few (and I've been one). It's not a fun place to be.

The only way I could realise I was one was through counselling and it really worked.

You said it well about being an energy vampire & the characteristics. Being a former energy vampire, I can attest it is not healthy mentally and physically. Definitely not productive too as well socially. Like I said, counselling works wonders.

I am not misconstruing what she said. She said that implant surgeons see deaf children as nothing but "defective cochleas", and that is garbage.

And as for improving my child's future...please, don't feign actual concern. My child is happily visiting with her grandmother today.

Right. That was what I figured out from Mrs. B's post. I think I was thinking of this already without thinking of the concept "energy vampire" when I asked FJ weeks/months back why she was even on AD -- because she contributed nothing positive, nothing in the other threads where we all chat on a daily basis and have fun. Every single post is to argue what we say, and only in specific threads, nowhere else. I guess she's NOT ALL THAT INTERESTED in the deaf community, despite what she says.

What happened is that I have been told, every single day, that everything I do is wrong. That my child will hate me and be permanently scarred. I am told in-spite of having given her ASL every day of her life (since BEFORE she was deaf) and giving her the opportunity to be around Deaf and deaf kids every day of her life (since she became deaf), that I am a genocidal maniac who is out to annihilate the Deaf community and that I am doing everything in my power to rid Deaf people of their rights.........But somehow no one can point to actions, or actual statements that do that, just their opinion of my "attitude".

That is what happened. It has nothing to do with a CI, it has everything to do with the people here.

Nor is it healthy for those around you. You were one of the wise ones. You realized something was amiss and took steps to change it.

It was a long and hard road for me. Luckily for me, I had and still have those good friends from here in the board and in real life that stuck with me.

You have a very valid point. I've known that for some time. But professionals aren't perfect! Sometimes we engage in less than healthy behaviors, too.
