100-Year-Old Sex Offender About to Go Free

What I don't understand is that the whole thing centers on this old man having "urges" to molest children. Since when does every urge require being satisfied? I have urges that I resist, such as smoking dope, getting drunk, an occasional ciggie. I have done them all before. I chose to stop doing them, because they were harmful to me, and sometimes others. Why do sexual predators think they MUST act on the urge to violate another human? Why can't they just accept the fact they have illegal desires, and not act on them? I will never understand. I mean, when I was younger, I found some girls that were under 18 to be smoking hot, but since I was of legal age (18+) I did not act on the urges. I had plenty of chances when I was just out of high school to have my pick of many 16 year olds. I just did not go there. Why do these creeps keep flying into the flame? Prison sucks, but if you are a sex offender, it really sucks.
 
I think it is possible they CAN gain the necessary self-control and fit in with society. Are we obligated to pay for that though?
 
It's not, but some might argue that treatment is above and beyond our obligations.

Like I was being serious. Anyway, prisons aren't cheap these days either. So one could say it's above and beyond taxpayers' obligations too as well.

A good number of prisons are cash-strapped.

I have never said they cannot. It has been proven that a large number of people incarcerated, not just sex offenders, tend to repeat when they are released. Once someone commits a crime that brings prison time, it is embedded behavior.

Trying to convince parents that the repeat sex offender down the road is now cured becomes an impossible task. It is commonly decided among parents that these people do not take treatment very well. Thing is, how would you feel if one of these released predators were to move in down the street from you? It is a classic NIMBY thing.

I used to drive past a grade school when I worked nights. I was always amazed at the number of parents that pick their child up; dozens of vehicles. When I was young, almost nobody did this, unless it was pouring rain or -10 degrees. What changed?

It is all about having the power and getting sasifaction from it. They get their power from harming those who are helpless.

That is the exact thing we are discussing... Seeking help for the ones to control their addictions... sick and twisted as it is.. they are all case of mental illnesses.
 
To me paedophiles are much like sociopaths because they cannot be cured and they know how much pain and suffering they have inflicted on the victims, but instead of empathising, they are revelling at the amount of pain they have caused.

As for this old man, some of you said he should be rehabiliated or put into mental hospital, that is fine in theory. However, he was caught committing this crime when he was in his 90's and this to me has indicated he has been up to no good for decades but simply was not caught until recently. One does not suddenly turn paedophile overnight. Also I believe he would have found a way to get around the rules imposed on him and commit the crime again.

I wonder if the advocates or families of the victims could appeal the decision made by parole board?

I do not think anyone is disagreeing this man needs to be put out of society.. as well as the other criminally insane people. As for the re offenders they need more help than others. It is an illness.. a sick twisted illness as any other mental illness. and needs to stay behind bars and be helped along the way.

Believe me, I know. There's so many things wrong with the justice system these days. A person can get a hefty sentence (anywhere from 10 to 25 years) for stealing from a bank yet a child molester can get a 3 months sentence!

I have seen a case where the child molester plead to a lower count and only got a child abuse or endangerment. Only got a year probation and does not have to register as a sex offender... He supposedly molested three girls.

That is totally twisted.
 
Well then let's place all sex offenders in a federal maximum security prison and isolate them from the general population and castrate them? Yeah now we've got to keep these sick bastards alive on our tax dollar? I don't think so.

As mentioned above this isn't a mental illness or disorder, this is a sick bastard that does not sympathize with their victims and instead revel at the very thought of inflicting pain on someone else for their own sexual gratification.

And not only that, it would do no good to castrate. A man's g-spot is up his ass, not his dick.
 
As time goes on

The sheer costs involved when incarcerating people and trying to track them will drive a new procedure. Sadly it will be quite effective and will slowly refine into a whole science of reconstructing humans for living in developing societies. Because what the morals and laws of a society are in each society are a changing thing and are different in different parts of our world it will be a hated thing and dangerous thing - the elite will be able to dodge it while the regular folks are used as guinea pigs.
Behaviour modification chips surgically inserted and programmed will become common. The beginnings will be seen as primitive of course. Medication schedules will be progammed in and there will be tracking and resupply alarms that go back to a central complex. There will be a "positive" deterrant program in these buggers as well. Psychological evaluations will be very advanced from what they are now. The actual state of each individuals brainwaves and body functions when they are in crime mode will be identified and there will be a function in the chip that monitors the set of indicators. When the trouble alarm goes off that individual will sustain a deterrent jolt of something and they will be done with that state of being with no harm caused.

Once one of these chips goes in it will take an act of congress to get it taken out. Unfortunately it does not leave room for "learning the hard way". Which for many of us is the way we learn.
 
In the meantime

We are still stuck with too many offenders and not enough jail space. They are among us. It makes my head hurt just thinking about it.
