Because the way it is set up, it's going to make them commit the same crimes in order to pay off their debts once they get out. Then they go back in, get out, then are unable to pay the bills that the prisons pinned on them... repeat and rinse until they abolish that system.

Can you not see the long-term consequences?

Now if they made it so that you have to do a certain amount of hours of unpaid labour everyday, then that I can see being feasible; not pinning them with a bill once they get out.

I agree that if they are too broke or poor, they will commit crimes again. However, I feel they shouldnt be freed if they prey on children.
 
I would rather have them perform some menial labor that can make the prison some money, such as farming

That's an awesome idea! That would also help inmates develop job skills etc.

Great minds think alike! I had the exact same thoughts as you! I am glad I don't have those sick, disgusting sexual desires and am not a perv. I really hope there is a cure to eliminate sexual desires or at the least identify those perverts before they perform a crime and isolate them. They can go live on an island or some rural town and perv off each other. Castration is a great idea. I actually proposed this option on one of my high school reports for all perverts with lustful, sexual desires. They could choose castration after serving perhaps 10 years in prison or they can stay locked up till they choose to be castrated.

The proble with those kind of punishments is that theyt end to lend themselves to opening the door to something else.

Castration is a form of eugenics. You do NOT want to crack the door open to that. First it will be sex offenders, then hardened criminals, then violent offenders, then deviants.. then the disabled... See the snowball?

I always has been a fan of this when it come to a penal system:

Never subject another person to anything you wouldn't want to go through yourself. If you're going to advocate for certain things be prepared to take the plunge of it being done to you.

Do you still want your balls? Good. Don't advocate for the removal of others'.

But anyhow....if Casteration still didn't keep a Sex Offender away from little children....and he came after mine....then if what it takes to keep him from raping children over and over...then Yeah! Cut his damn hands and legs off!

Let's see here, Souggy.....dunno if ur a father or not...let's say ur little boy got anal raped by a grown man... tell me "ur thoughts"!

Then again...let's say YOU were raped, sodomized, beat, tortured....tell me ur thoughts!

It's not rocket science!...This 100 yr. old man was given chance after chance to reform...."forgiven" over and over....and still repeated and repeated!...Now they're gonna turn the monster loose again?????

If what it takes to stop this man from repeatedly raping children...then so be it!

We, as parents, have a hard time enuf protecting our children from sex offenders.

So, I have ask you kindly to put down that card or otherwise you risk offending someone and putting them through PTSD. I have been very quiet about it, and I am refraining from typing out a long rant because I don't want this to turn into "I had it worse than you" flinging.

If the State require me to take mind-numbing pills for the rest of my life because of something I did, I may not agree with it-- but I will go with the flow. However anything that remind me of how people used to treat the disabled is not what I wish on anyone-- including pedophiles.

Ummm, Souggy, I'm not playing "a card."..I didn't start his thread!....And I'm Deaf also! On a Deaf Forum.....This thread should have "died out"...but you kept it going...."last word"?? I dunno....but I do suggest to let this thread DIE OUT....

Being a victim myself gives me strong opinions towards Sex Offenders who abuse children. I'm a survivor!...Inasmuch, as many of us are.

I was referring to the statement about my "thoughts" about those experience. That's a territory one should never be venturing into outside of a psychologist's office. That's the card I am referring to. I have seen it used in debates, and it leave the opposition traumatized-- when all they merely want to do is expressed their disagreement on how these cases should be handled. Please, do not do that again.

You do have my apologies, Souggy!...I'm a strong advocate of abused children.

Then again, I would suggest this thread be closed by the OP or the Mod before it inflames more people!...I do respect ur opinion and hope you can respect mine!

The problem with me in this kind of thing, even though I feel the same way about the issue with you, it does challenge my position as being a deaf advocate-- which forces me to advocate for EVERYONE since we are the bottom of the societal pillar in most people's eyes.

So if the OP want to lock the thread, that is up to him or her. I think everyone spoke their pieces here.
 
Why close this thread? I see a healthy debate. Other than "I have been through this or that, WHAT IF that and that happened to you"...

Putting a person in JAIL for 10 years isn't a reform. It does NOTHING to help the problem. We all can agree on that for sure.

What I was merely stating earlier is that we can do a different way of treating, like souggy said - Sending them to a mental health rehab facility to get the proper treatment to prevent this from happening again.

These who are sexually abused are more likely to be predators as well. I would go as far to do some preventive medicine with the victims.

All in all it would be cheaper than the prison system. In the end, our society would be a better place.

Many prisons are already doing such.. The inmates work to keep the system going. I have also seen many inmates working on the Florida Highways... along with gardening, cooking, laundry, and other jobs available to them.

I agree.. many prison system just take the key and lock them away..

For instance.. if the person actually is sick and needs treatment.. Taking the key and locking them away is not the appropriate treatment for them.

That is like taking a mental patient.. and locking them in a box... with out the proper medical and mental treatment. Once they get out.... nothing has changed... They only fueled the rage and yearning to re offend. Due to the only thing they did was lock them up.
 
Exactly!!!! We need to funnel the rapists, child molesters etc to mental hospitals for the criminally insane , where they will get very intense treatment. Maybe then they'll respond to treatment........I do think the majority of child molesters are very emotionally stunted. They may have been raped themselves....so they think that if they physically force themselves on a kid, it will somehow " heal" them. They don't understand that it was about violence and power and taking advantage of innocence rather then lovemaking.

Souggy...........FYI nowadays they use chemical castration, rather then actually slicing off the balls.
There might be a slippery slope if this was the old days...........BUT peodphiles are 100% criminals AND very mentally ill. Not bipolar or anything like that........more like sociopaths. They don't understand why a kid can't consent and why diddling a kid is wrong.
