I'm all for "pay for your own stay"....to some of these criminals, it's like the Holiday Inn!
To be more blunt....if they had not committed crimes to begin with, they would not be in jail/prison.....why should law-abiding citizerns be expected to pay for these scum??....Some of them are allowed to work in prison, and their pay is for their stay! I like that!....
Same thing for juveniles....if they are arrested and placed in detention....the parents are responsible to pay the bill, and for their probation if they are sentenced to a probationary period of time....Duval County is one county that does this and it's where I live.
Because the way it is set up, it's going to make them commit the same crimes in order to pay off their debts once they get out. Then they go back in, get out, then are unable to pay the bills that the prisons pinned on them... repeat and rinse until they abolish that system.
Can you not see the long-term consequences?
Now if they made it so that you have to do a certain amount of hours of unpaid labour everyday, then that I can see being feasible; not pinning them with a bill once they get out.
