totally agree wtih you byrdie, and to be called part of the UK is an insult to most scots, we are also part of their queens commonwealth,by force and not by choice, most scots want to break away from the UK, and she is not and never will be my Queen, I think them a total waste of space and money.

Isn't there talk of that happening?

yes we now run our own government byrdie, but overall westminster are still calling the shots, there will be a vote for independence here within the next 2years, so far it could go either way.
I want total independence, but the main party for indpendence wants to take us fully into Europe, we still use our own currency and not the euro, personally i don't want to be a fully fledged member of Europe either, because we will just end up being run by germany and france and I don't agree with most of their policies, I would rather sign up to the north Atlantic free trade agreement.. with the US and Canada, becuase if we end up being dragged into europe we will end up losing the special relationship we have had with the US, I can't see it surviving when we would then be walking hand in hand with france.

...I doubt that will happen with North and South Carolina anytime but there could be a surprise here and there.
I've never met anyone from either state who ever considered that as a possibility, or even had that desire. No one would want to give up their political power. That sounds like an urban legend to me.

lol your last comment made me laugh Reba, I couldn't tell you where carolina is, other than havign heard of it in films, didnt even know there was a north and south, mind you having said that i would struggle to locate and American towns.
I don't expect people from other countries to know about the 50 states, so you're excused. :P

It's the natives of the United States who don't know the difference between two states that makes me crazy. People should at least be familiar with their own country.

I asumme you say "ABoot" too for about? obviously scottish a word carried through from scottish settlers, it has been used here for centuries, and thats how I would say it.
I was teasing the Canucks. Canadians pronounce "about" as "aboot", and "house" as "hoose". That's a dead giveaway as to nationality.

It makes sense that the Canadians from Nova Scotia and other areas in Canada that were settled by Scots would pronounce it that way.

...still can't get over the fact it was 2 scottish men that started the Klu klux Klan:mad: how embarrassing.
Don't take it that way. The fact that those Klansmen were members of the human race is embarrassing enough.

Or at least know what the capitol is of their state and country! If not, that's even more embarrassing!

Yupp I do hear about this too, the state of Lincoln which are at east Washington merging with north Idaho become the state of Lincoln, also south Oregon and north California was planned to be merge together and become the state of Jefferson, but they have been proposed for long time. Also I heard California might split up itself due to its population, but I don't really know about this, alos I know Texas have the right to split itself up, but never had done yet.

I would love to see states, especially western states, to split up because all of the states in the western are too big to travel through while the New England area (northeast US) have very small states and are easy to travel through, also other reason why I would love to see states split up so we can have more choices which states to live in.

Wikipedia have articles where I learned from.

This one is general the 51st state article.

51st state - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And this is for the new state from a current state.

List of U.S. state secession proposals - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I have heard of Puerto rico refusing to join to become 51st state due to taxes and other reasons.

Probably so. :)

I also heard that rumor which Sweetheart told me that Ontario, Canada might take over Michigan, probably another urban legend, too.

There's also the attempt of some citizens of northern California and southern Oregon to form the state of Jefferson. Political boundaries are mostly just temporary, imaginary lines.

Lol, State of Jefferson?....:-P Doesn't sound orginal.

Why our country hate other countries? Isn't it a racism? Funny, we are naturalized from all over the world. Forget political issues. We are fooled to believe our national news.

I strongly doubt that Ontario, Canada will take or try to take over Michigan state since Michigan is a state in America. I doubt the people there would want to have Canada to take over their state. Unless Canada willing to explain why they want Michigan state. I think it probaby a hoax.

I doubt that the state of Michigan is worth Canada starting a war with the United States.

Probably someone saw the lame 1995 Michael Moore movie, Canadian Bacon, where a sham invasion was rumored for political attention. The person may have thought it was another "true" documentary.
