Hollywood moguls are pressuring California lawmakers to do what they can to stop the extradition of Roman Polanski, aiming to prevent the Oscar-winning director from being forcibly returned to the U.S. to do time for raping a 13-year-old girl in the 1970s.

The only problem — the government isn't interested.

Actors and actresses from Harrison Ford to Debra Winger have reportedly joined the growing throng of liberal celebrities calling for Polanski to be released following his arrest in Switzerland last week...

Whoopi Goldberg used her spot on ABC's "The View" to try to clear up the record regarding the crime to which Polanski pleaded guilty in 1978.

"I know it wasn't 'rape' rape. I think it was something else, but I don't believe it was 'rape' rape," said Goldberg, dismissing the possibility that Polanski had forced himself on anyone.

You are just bashing Whoopi just because she has her opinion on what she thinks of Roman Polanski. You have to remember that Whoopi was not there in 1970 on the case of his raping the 13 years old girl back then. Also you have to remember that she is an outspoken person for what she believe on her own opinion. She was just mincing her words that can get her out of control with the media. As for you, you are more out of control with us when you gave us insulting remarks about your precious hearing and all the other posts. Give Whoopi a rest. Everyone has their own opinion on what they think about. Beside, she is a liberal or Democrat and so am I. I don't know what is going on back then in 1970. It was a long time ago. :roll:

Jiro and a few others have been parodying that. And yes, someone had to fill me in on the details as well.

Do a google on Kokonut Pundits and Obama and you'll find out what the other posters are saying. He has like a zillion Obama bashing threads here.

I don't get it. He raped a 13 yrs old child. He pled guilty to having sex with a minor, but in my book, that's still rape. He should be made to answer for his crime.

I think what Whoopi was saying is that he didn't attack and then forcibly rape her. Even so, I agree with you on this one.

Well... the child was drugged, so that is force in my mind as well. Regardless of it all, though, this was a child of 13. She could NOT consent, so that makes it rape. He pled guilty to a lesser crime of "Sex with a MINOR". Semantics, really, at least the way I rationalize it. He pled guilty and then he fled the country. Bring him back to the US and make him do time for what he did!

As for what Whoopi said about it, I had respect for her ...until now. She's wrong on this one.

I agree, Oceanbreeze. It is an insidious thing to drug a girl and rape her. The point of this thread was that Whoopi was wrong on this one. Rape is rape. And Whoopi in her sick and little twisted world doesn't call it a rape. No boy or girl should ever go through that and be under the influence of an adult. This has nothing to do with skin color folks but her reasoning alone. Polanski need to be returned and serve his time.

I cannot see how people in here can even justify or condone what Polanski did and try and look the other way at the same time on what Whoopi said about it not being a rape.

Rape is rape. There is no other way around it.

Rather curious to see people attempt to divert this topic away from Polanski's and Whoopi's comment.

I have to agree with you on everything you said. I don't always agree with you. In fact, I rarely do, but on this I do.

I was 11 years old (I think?) when this all went down. That's a hell of a long time to dodge justice. He needs to do time for what he did. Simple as that.

As for Whoopi's comment, I don't care if she is purple, pink, yellow, green, orange, or purple-polka-dotted. She's wrong and race or one's views on race should NOT enter into it.

Whoopi was 23 years old when Polanski fled the United States in 1978. She's old enough to remember that.
 
Right, OB, race has nothing to do this. I just find it amazing that how people try and condone what Polanksi did and now are trying to protect Whoopi who believes this wasn't rape at all.

This thread illustrates the perfect example. Criticize a person who is not of the caucasin variety, and they play the racist card as matter of convenience by screaming "Raaaaaaaaaacist!" (maybe you're joking...maybe not....hmmm). But this is not about race but people try and make it to be about race as the reason for the attack. Hardly, It's about a person who in her sick mind do not call it as a rape. It's sick and perverted for anyone who says that.

If you really have to ask me if I think it isn't a rape, then I'm questioning your common sense. Do you mean to tell me that you have no common sense? Read this thread and you'll find my answer to your question.
