When I was in high school, we learned about the various world religions and their impact on world events. We were never taught to accept any of those religions or memorize any of their doctrinal statements.
In world history courses we covered Judaism, ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman beliefs, Christianity (Catholic and Protestant), Hinduism, Buddhism, Muslim, and Norse beliefs. In American history we covered Native spiritual beliefs, including Aztec and Mayan practices, and religions that were brought to America, such as with the Pilgrims and Quakers, and Southwestern Catholic missions.
We weren't taught that. We were taught that the Communist philosophy of religion in the Soviet Union was atheism, which was correct. It was very clearly explained to us that Russians and the Soviet Union were not interchangeable. It's true that most people in the Soviet Union were Russian but not all of them, and not all Russians lived in the Soviet Union. The only thing I can learning in high school about religions was our teacher telling the class room Russians don't believe in God. We didn't cover any of what you had in my 2 years at my town high school and 2 years in a high school in Maine. Maine was rather behind in time .

How small was your town?My teacher didn't use the word atheism , I went to high school in a very small town and I am sure some teachers are biased and will say something that not facts. Like a teacher telling my daughter class
all tall Black men like to play basket ball.

I thought they took god out of the schools? Why would they force islam if its to be removed? As with they took the flag out of the classrooms as well, no more pledge to allegiance? Our government is retarded, and thats putting things VERY nicely.
I graduated 87 from HS, and from 83-87 we didnt. But in grade school, every day as my homeroom teacher was a retired Marine Drill Sergent, Mrs Moore, and she was a mean , tough nail chewing old lady !!!! Do something wrong in her class and you pay the price, anywhere from push ups, to holding your arms out straight with a thick book for the duration of the class...ect... she wasnt nice at all and we didnt want to ever get caught goofing off. But I loved her classes. I thought it was funny with kids chewing gum, had to stick the wad on their nose til end of class.Only in 9th circuit district but it looks like not enforceable.
Most states require schools to issue Pledge to Allegiance everyday.
1965-69.What year did you went to high school?
Where?The atheism was 1% in 1950s.

In the 1950s, it was 1 percent. In late 2012, it was reported that atheism was the third-largest “faith” in the world after Christianity and Islam.
