For your rifle, do you prefer:

  • Express sling
  • One-point tactical sling
  • Three-point tactical sling
  • Bungee sling
  • Other kind of sling (describe)
  • No sling at all
  • Built-in carrying handle
  • Just hand carry it

Why? Pros/cons?

:ty:

(No, this isn't a homework assignment. )

I've never used it but I've read good things about the Magpul MS3. It can be a single point or two point.

Most people I know hand carry because it feels more natural. I guess it's just easier to point that way, without the sling getting in the way of things.

Also if worse comes to worst and you have to use the butt end, it's probably easier to swing lol :)

It's nice to have a sling if you suddenly find yourself needing both hands but don't want to put the gun down.

I'm not a physically strong person, so the business end of the gun is more useful to me than using it like a club. :giggle:

From what I've read about the tactical slings, they are designed to not be in the way no-matter how you hold/aim the gun.

I like the looks of those. I'm going to investigate a little further. I might need to attach a ring to my rail for sling use (easy to do).

Yea, I would suggest transitioning to a pistol before resorting to clubbing. A sling will help with that too.

Not to mention what clubbing does to the bullseye. :giggle:

Slings are like holsters. You end up with a drawer full before you find one that works for you.

I'm not a big fan of these tactical slings like Magpul, Blackhawk, 3-points, etc. I prefer to stick with the simplest leather sling that has been around for decades - basic and unpadded. no swivel because it makes noise. works perfectly fine for African hunters too.

African hunters?

Oh, big game hunting in Africa, not that the hunters had to be Africans.

I doubt that I'll be doing any big game hunting in Africa.

the point is... if it works fine for them especially in such a dangerous situation where thing can suddenly change in a second, it's probably because this method was the simplest and the best.

plus this method has a few variations - african carry, american carry, european carry. If I were to carry it all day long - I do American Carry. If I'm in a situation where I gotta be ready to shoot, I do African Carry.

The magpul can be a two point sling just like what the hunters are using. And all the slings in the photos you posted use swivels. Yes there are some crazy complex slings out there but magpul isn't one of them.

yes. it's like all-in-one package but I don't feel comfortable that way because the sling has 2 "tapes" (I dunno what to call it - strap? rope? etc.) together. I prefer just a single tape.

yes. I was referring to swivel that moves around. It was found to be noisy. My friend has MagPul 3-points (or was it 2-points?) for his M4 and he didn't like it. wayyy too noisy. the swivel I want and as shown in the pix are in fixed position for sling to go thru.

Do you have a link that compares them clearly?
