What is Your Pet Peeve?

It's kind of sad a rule has to be made. My parents leave stuff in the middle of the hallway all the time and it drives me nuts. They especially tend to leave bags on the stairs to bring up or down the next time they go up/downstairs.

I'm sorry to hear about your maintenance person, Hear Again. Unfortunately most people never think about little things that make a big difference.

I know, mine do the same, and thier dogs lay in the middle of the hall, and when i accidentally step on them or trip there is a ton of noise, and it's always my fault...

your parents sound exactly like mine. they used to leave clean clothes on the staircase (for me to pick up and take to my room) and it never failed. i always tripped over them.

fortunately, that maintenance person is long gone. the one who works here now is wonderful and very understanding.

you'd think that some dogs would be smart enough to get out of the way when they see you approaching. i guess not... the lhasa apso i grew up with was the same way.

Oh no that's the worst! I've stepped on my cat a few times and I always feel awful! But now he meows when I enter the room he's in or paws me if I come near him. Smart cat. <smile>

Wow. And your parents didn't think maybe leaving the clothes on the staircase wasn't the most blind-friendly thing in the world? I'm still trying to convince my parents that I actually can't see so I can't exactly ask them to do things more in more blind-friendly ways.

I'm glad your current maintenance person is understanding!

Yup, and Nika, i hate to admit it, but i dont feel horrible, because its the dogs fault. Maybe sympathetic, but not horrible.

Yeah. Pretty stupid of your dog not to move. But I always feel horrible cause he yelps and then I realize I hurt him. <sad>

you'd be amazed at some of the ignorant things my parents did. even though i was born totally blind, they would often forget that i couldn't see because of how well i free-lanced around the house. we lived in a very large home, but its' layout was such that you could walk from one end to the other without having to turn left or right with the exception of going into the living room, family room or staircase.

Yeah, its amazing how even parents can forget.

Didn't think about that! A lot of my friends forget too. "Nika -- check out that bird!" "What bird?" <laugh>

<laughing> one of my dear and close friends used to do the same thing to me. we'd be driving somewhere and she'd tell me, "hear again, look out the window. do you see that?" and i would be like, "see what?" <giggle>

Yup, i used to lie to people and say "Ohh, yes, i see it..." not...

pet peeve: People not understanding when you really need help, and not caring enough to help.

i HATE that when people do those kinds of things like your father did. it's not like we're asking them to repeat just for the fun of it.

whenever a hearie does that to me, i respond in the same fashion which is when they realize how insensitive they're being.

yeah i'd do the same, but my dad would get seriously pissed off at me and probably send me up to my room or argue with me more. I don't really want to get into his bad moods. He can blow up big time if i did something wrong like accidently spilling a drink. I mean I love my dad but sometimes he's a hot head.
