What is marriage?

personally, I don't care how one decide to handle their relationship or define love or marriage that work for them. I just wonder the purpose of marriage license.

Good question about the marriage license.

These two don't seem to go together. What's the point of getting married if A) you don't want a contractual obligation involving finances. OR B) You don't believe you should be married in God's eyes before living together.

Very confusing. It sounds like you are saying you need a court to voice it's approval of your love and willingness to spend your life with someone. To me marriage is about trust. I always trusted my wife with our finances. If I didn't I wouldn't have been with her. Yes , some people get burned in a first marriage and try to cover their butt in the second marriage. That doesn't sound like unconditional love to me.

The entire post is above. See the bold part. "Some people" means more than one. Plus, there are many different ways that people cover themselves in a second marriage. Not just seperate finances. See the "to me" ? That indicates that it's my definition. The thread was about how we define marriage. The post wasn't personal.

Marriage is so much more than just religious union. It is a commitment before God, but it's also a commitment made before man, and more importantly a commitment made to each other that you will do all you can to nurture the relationship and to help it flourish and grow.

A marriage is legal committed relationship between two grown consenting individuals, and it should be legal for everyone. Homosexuality is considered a protected status, not granting same sex marriages would be in violation of the 1964 civil rights act that protects minority people groups from discrimination, including homosexuals.

Could you please list the article and title numer that deals with marriage or homosexuality. Also are you saying that marriage is exclusively a legal commited relationship? I think many cultures would beg to differ.

Also off topic but just for fun. For you GOP haters below is how the vote broke down for the Passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
