What did you learn today? Part II

It will be all right. Soldiers have internet now, even video cams. With effort on both sides, you can still be close.

It won't be easy for anyone. But it's possible. I wish you and your brother and the rest of the family all the best as he does his tour.

So far today I have learned some amazingly good news!!! The town hall for our little town has approved our garage conversion and code changes. Next up on the list of things to do, we get to hire a surveyor to come check and make sure everything is correct and we have enough space for the septic tank. Then we take that paperwork to the town hall for a permit for the septic tank and once we get the permit, go to the Health Department to arrange for the installation of the septic tank. I believe somewhere in between the surveyor and the septic tank, MIL and hubby also have to go wherever to change the lot over to his and my name and also get the loan taken care of. Once we get the "plat" number, we can go to the Post Office and get our new house number. Yay!!!!

Well, the town of Haverhill has been here since the 60's. All along, MIL and family have used West Palm Beach in their address all along, but in the last 5-8 years, the Town of Haverhill is pushing for people to use Haverhill as their address. Since we are smack dab in one of the oldest areas of Haverhill, we are governed by their codes. Taxes are a little higher and we are policed by the County Sheriff's office.

Ah interesting. What changes do you like the best?

I'm not sure of these changes you are asking about, but for the last 14 years we were in Missouri, we lived in smaller towns. West Palm Beach is very large and very crowded. Haverhill is a smaller area and they are trying to keep it green with trees and planting and make it more homey like.

Hubby likes the area as he grew up in this neighborhood. The house MIL has is where hubby moved to at age 4. Daughter likes the area as we are very close to a park through the Parks & Rec department. Son isn't happy since he really wants to be back in Missouri, but he is doing well with dealing with it. Mother would like to be back in Missouri, but is happy with the neighborhood being quiet. We have some decent and good neighbors and some who are very helpful.

I learned that it is cooling off again and that we are due another round of storms later this week. UGH. This is getting old.

Dixie, will you please move to another state (out of tornado alley) so I can stop worrying about you? :)

I agree with this. I do worry a lot and know that moving is not really an option for you Dixie. Your area seems to be getting hit really badly this year than any other recent year I think. I know my God-Parents called to let us know they are fine. They have decided to move and are going to Arizona to be with their 4 children.

Do you currently have city sewer for the house but are going to have a septic tank for the garage conversion? Or does the house have it's own septic and the garage conversion will, too, because we are now talking about two separate pieces of property?

To the both of you, thanks for your concern. If this keeps up much longer I will be very tempted to move someplace like Colorado (Gunnison-Crested Butte area). Kristina, where do your God-Parents reside currently? If I had a job with USDA - I would be putting in a transfer for out-of-state. I can't move due to the whole financial situation and I don't want to move very far without having a job secured at where I am going. Right now I'm thinking of taking a job on the ATU campus in Russellville and moving up to Russellville or Dover if possible. A friend of mine said their are a few administrative positions open. I may apply. If I get such a position one benefit is free tuition.

There is no city sewer in this area of the county. It is all septic tanks. MIL's house that we are currently in has it's own septic tank. she had it replaced about 8 years ago and it's actually too small for all of us. The garage property never had a septic tank installed and so that's what we have to get in. The garage currently is 32ft by 42ft and has no electric, water or plumbing. And yes, the garage is on a 2nd lot. In-laws bought 2 lots side by side.

God Parents are currently in Little Rock. Have been since before I was born, in the same house for the last 60 years.

Wow, I bet that will be quite a change for them! I have relatives in Little Rock and so far we've not heard anything from them about any damages to their property.

I learned that sometimes people are like a fish out of water. Not necessarily anything bad about that.

I need Independent skill class or life practicalities, big time.

I need to know what to look for in an apartment or a house
what investments to make
money managing skills
cooking (shit.)
critical thinking and advanced writing skills

I'm interested in taking classes like this in Summer while finishing up my general ed. :P
