I'm looking for a career, tired of having "jobs." I want a stable career with a nice income. I'm aiming for something in the creative arts field. Perhaps some kind of a visual information specialist or a photo editor since my degree is in Visual Journalism, which is my passion.

Yes, stupid shoulder surgery. I had completely torn Labrum and also some rotator cuff issues. Maybe if Im a good boy I'll have my cannon back in a few months. But still, watching all my friends makes it hard to be a spectator right now.

Hmmm - What did I do today? Well, let's see, I did the usual morning chores, made 5 pounds of ham salad (for hubby's lunches), went to two libraries, bank, Post Office, Farmer's Market, Pollo Tropical for lunch and finally I am home again resting.

Sounds like fun, but that also seems like a highly competitive field. Good luck with that, though! I know I recently started my career (within the past year) and the year or so of job searching before finding the place I'm at now was extremely frustrating, but definitely worth it.

Definitely! I love it. It's so much easier to hold and you don't have to make an effort to turn the page. I got it for Christmas and think it's well worth it for anyone who loves to read.

I've got one too - I love it! However, if you have a local library with a decent ebook collection (I'd ask the librarians, they'd be able to tell you, if you don't know), you may want to look at a Nook. The Kindle can't read .epub files, which is what 95% of US libraries' ebook collections are in.

It is VERY competitive. I'm giving up on New York City. Too competitive for me and I'm trying to look elsewhere now.

I've been job searching since 2009 when I became a college grad. So yes, it's frustrating especially in this economy. I even know some of my fellow grads still don't have a job yet... Or even working as a maid. :roll: It was a bad year to graduate...

You can get it through wifi. The kindle has wifi so it's incredibly easy. Once you "purchase" something off Amazon, you automatically get it on your Kindle.

There are ways of getting books for free, but it depends on where you look. I have yet to purchase a book for my kindle... Even Amazon has the free books section, mostly classic books.

And I'm trying to aim for the newspaper industry or publishing, but people who already work in the industry are constantly getting laid off and applying to the positions that college grads could use... And they choose the more experienced ones. So we don't get a lot of opportunities.

At least I followed my passion and got my degree in it instead of getting a degree that would get me a job anywhere and make me miserable. I'd rather be happy doing something I love.

She said if I had the degree I would get promoted quickly based on the education and experience. Not sure if this is a wise move. It would likely set me back at least one semester.

it's an over-saturated field. that's why I have 2 degrees with a focus on highly-skilled area.

Nowadays... nobody wants one with "broad skill". Because of financial situation and budget cut... employers prefer a person with a very particular set of skills.

I know you have skill but... it's still an over-saturated field. So is my job and I was just simply very lucky to land one

what your friend said - NO DOUBT!

These are not "broad" skill like math/english/communication/history major. it's a good choice. good luck! You may not make much from that field but it's an excellent job security.
