oh so you're saying the people you're going to defend against are well-versed with deaf/"hoh" community subject?

that's why I'm asking him

You put words in his mouth by saing he is "saying the people you're ......" (your post) when he said no such thing, one way or the other.

See ya. You guys can battle this out. Time for popcorn!

notice a question mark at the end of my sentence. I am merely inquiring. :dunno:

This is going to be interesting.

Nice to see you back, Oracle. <3

"You're?" is putting it in his mouth.

"Are you?" is a genuine question.

You're = You Are

"Are you saying.....?"
"You are saying.....?"

Since it ended with a question mark, it is basically same as "Are you". Instead of quibbling over something that has nothing to do with you... Alex is free to answer my question with either yes or no... and that's that.

:dunno:

"You're?" comes out as a mocking sarcasm. Learn how to ask questions properly. Or you're not going to learn?

ah I see that you're being a gnat

I don't need to answer to the two biggest manipulators on this site, but I will in case others are curious.

For your information, one member on my committee is hoh and a signer and very well versed in deaf literature and disability theory. The other two are well-established professional writers.

Do you understand that first and foremost I am defending my WRITING? Not the Deaf community. If you mean to cast doubt on my own life experience as hoh/deaf, well that pretty much shows your little crabby pinchers.

Also, I am working on an ASL translation of one of my stories with one of the ASL teachers here. Strong Deaf.

You think the people on this site can't see either of you for what you are? Slimeballs.

Exactly what I am saying, I hope you have the writing in the correct frame.

No need to be a raging alcoholic.

That's how you should respond in the first place. No need to get all bitter and snarky for no reason. I hope you're not going to defend your thesis in that manner.

What difference does it make if the committee is or is not familiar with deaf/HoH issues? The point of a thesis defense is to present the written material, explaining it to objective, disinterested (not UN-interested) observers. They might ask questions, ask for more explanations, judge the quality of the research methodology if appropriate, and the writing. Members of the panel don't necessarily have to be expert in the subject matter of the thesis; it's the job of the thesis defender to explain it.

Would you agree with that, Alex?

I wish you the best with it; hope it all goes well. Do you expect to publish it for a general audience?

Edited: by the time I posted this, you had already answered the points here. Just so you know, I'll be lifting a virtual glass of champagne to you. It's a big milestone.

Oh, playing the "umad" card now.

So predictable.

why get all bitter in the first place? I've never been to graduate school. I hope you're not going to display that same behavior to someone who would ask same question.

I'm advising you to seek anger management program.

Exactly. 100%

This is why I warned them not to talk about things they have no idea about. Neither of them have the first clue what a graduate thesis defense entails, and yet they sit here and question me like the inquisition. Completely laughable and an insult to everything I've worked for the 3 years.

Used Barbies and Ken dolls to teach "A Midsummer Night's Dream" to my high school students. LOL

The big difference is if the framing was towards the deaf are not as able as their counterparts the written thesis will serve as an educational piece to these who are not aware of the community delivering as a frame that could be damaging.

You could have answered our questions like the way Beach Girl did.

Any normal and respectful person would not ask the questions you asked in the manner you asked them.

The type of person who does deserves to be dealt with forcefully.

Drop the act.
