What are you thinking about? Part VIII

How dismayed I am to get a letter telling me my property taxes are going up 600 a month come next tax term which is in October. Erk!

A trip from Alabama to Atlanta everyday to work seems odd... and counter productive..

Not too odd.. I used to see this happen a lot in IT....there was one guy who lived in FL but worked in SC- he would stay the week in SC then Friday drive down to FL to visit with his wife (at the time they couldn't move due to personal issues). Another lived in GA (don't remember where) and did the same thing. More common was live in NC and work in SC- some had 1.5-2 hour drives (*thud*). It's like Foxrac said...cheaper to live in one state, and to add sometimes they can't or don't want to uproot their families. Also know a guy who works all over the US (contracts in IT) and lives in MN- right now works a shorter week then flies home for the weekend.

Is that because they missed you the first time around?

No. It's a new house/land. Here in MN, the first year after buying land that does not have a house attached to it, you only pay taxes on the land (even after the house is built.) Then, after the first full year when a house has been built, they finally assess the house with it. So we went from just a little under $1,000 for taxes on the land to $7,200 for the land+house now that it's been a year since we built. But hubby has a $300k exemption on the value of the house because he's a 100% disabled veteran, so that will help us out quite a bit, but that won't go into effect until next tax season (next spring), unfortunately. At least the $600/month isn't for all-time. Just for a short while.

Thanks for the response....I was thinking of something along these lines and the additional input re: your hubby's veteran status made sense of the whole thing.......and a Thank you for his service to your hubby!

I wonder what it would be like living in Canada , the thought of Hillary or Trump as the next president is sicken !

Did you realize what the taxes were likely to be before you built what you did? Not an exact figure but a ballpark one.

LMAO....boy!...I can imagine these 2 together...she wears a HA and can't sign ASL...seems he's anti-HA/CI....(better shut up while I'm ahead)

LMAO.. I don't think he minds HA/CI too terribly with adults. It's the fact that she doesn't sign AND hates her deafness and would rather not be that will drive Hoichi nuts.

Yes we were. We thought the exemption would go into effect first so that was what was the surprise.

I know it happens all over... heck when I lived in NV most people had a 2 hour drive or the like... but odd because it is cheaper else where if you work in ATL... that is all...

Canada is beautiful! I have only seen pics and have a few deaf friends in different parts of Canada. One lives near Niagra Falls , the pics they post are gorgeous!

Ahh yes you have a point there. I lived near ATL (worked and lived outside of ATL) but didn't live there that long to really get into everything expense and travel wise. Luckily my drives up to NC avoided the whole ATL thing lol.
