One and the same. They're not NIS anymore. They changed it to NCIS. That's their official website.

Hardly. I learn as I go, and I store that information for future use, and can find it rather quickly.

I rather let Reba or TCS do the explaining since.... well they're Navy veterans

You could, but I can also tell you-- that's a federal law enforcement agency. It used to be military, but not anymore. Plus, I'm not sure if either one worked at the Navy Yard there. It's a big place.

Thinking about what to do with my $87 Amtrak e-voucher. It expires in June, and I'd like to use at least half of it before it does. I may use 1/2 of it to visit a friend of mine, so maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing.

If you buy a ticket for less than the value of the voucher, you'll get a voucher for the difference, and, I believe, that voucher will have a new expire date. So you could take a short trip just to extend the expiration.

There is that. Hmm, I've always wanted to tour Champaign, IL. I just may do that.

I'm thinking I'll never look at socks the same way again ever - thanks to the #cockinasock pictures that are currently viral on facebook and instagram. I know it is for to promote cancer awareness but........ eh, I'm mentally scarred lol

Here is the timeline:

1882 - Office of Naval Intelligence - to gather info on other countries.
1916 - Countering espionage and sabotage.
1935-1945 - Counterintelligence and criminal investigations.
1966 - Naval Investigative Service established.
1970 - NIS agents deployed with the fleet.
1992 - NIS (military in charge) become NCIS under the control of the (Secretary of the Navy), a civilian.
2005 - Mission change to include law enforcement agencies.
2012 - Joint service merge (MTAC) to share intelligence and threats.

When I was in the Navy, I was a Yeoman. We did the paperwork for clearances. NIS agents used to investigate everything related to a sailor or marine's death to bad checks to phone threats to background checks. Nothing related to terrorism. We had Yeoman assigned to assist with their workload in their offices. Security clearances were sent to DIS (Defense Investigative Service) and they would have NIS agents call or visit relatives, neighbors or coworkers to check out the behavior and loyalty of whoever was being requested for a clearance. This included DOD civilians.

After I retired, I went on a church work trip to Ukraine. Since it was a former Soviet country, I was given a brief from an NIS agent that I occasionally worked with on what to do if I was approached. I had a very high clearance when I retired. If nothing happened, I did not have to report back. Nothing did.

NCIS was created due to the global terrorist threats. So their tasks were changed. Now they do work similar to the NCIS TV series. Today, the OPM (Office of Personnel Management's) sub-command, FIS (Federal Investigative Services) do background checks for military personnel and DOD civilians.

MTAC has some of the highest security there is, other than the Pentagon. I watched an episode where there was an electronic bug discovered, and that room went on automatic lockdown, which was interesting. I got to learn something new and perspective.

Idiots.... I'm thinking about idiots... and how they're everywhere.... and how I'll never be able to escape all of them....

You sure about that? TV shows tend to take great liberties and do not always show the "REAL" goings on of whatever they are portraying. I have read stories where it is said that events/procedures on the old ER show were not always accurate or true.

So-- same with NCIS (and NCIS:Los Angeles)- while the premise is true in what they do... the story lines are not. I will only believe it if I am talking to somebody who has actually oh- WORKED there or is very familiar with it (like Reba and TinSailor) or I've actually been there and seen it with my own two lil eyes.

Quite sure. It's true that the storyline isn't based on true events, but I'm an actor-- I'm trained to know what is true and what's not.

Thanks for sharing it. Does that mean the rest of them are hearing? Just 3 of you deaf?

Correct. The director had been desiring deaf people to join for a few years, and one of the interpreters knew about my experience with ICODA, so she suggested I join, and it was perfect timing, so I went ahead and joined that January.

One note-- of the three in the video-- only one survived. One passed away, the other is a felon, currently in prison.

Sorry to hear that. Why don't they do any more shows?

Budget cuts. The last season was 2011, and they did 20 shows, but I was recovering from a major back injury at the time, and not able to continue.
