What are you thinking about? Part IV

In my case, my mom (within the last couple of years) would get mad at my dad for some reason or another, and leave. She would go walking down highways. It's SO NOT SAFE !! Then my sister or I would have to leave work looking for her. Or Dad. And whoever found her first, she would get mad at. I had a serious talk with her a few months back about how unsafe this behavior was, and if she felt she had to leave, PLEASE go do it on the back roads, and not on the highway. She's since stopped doing that.

Does she possibly have Alzheimer's?

Yep. It'd be a HUGE move for me... Dropping everything here in New York where I was trying to make a start for myself only to go back to California.

Can your sister come and live with you?

We have the 2 cats and 3 people who all shed quite a bit. I totally know what you mean. And yes, mother, daughter and myself lose more hair daily than anyone else I know. For mother it's not good as she has very thin hair to begin with, but daughter and I have super thick hair and losing it doesn't seem to thin it out any.

We have begun using a beard trimmer (or shaver, whatever you call them.) We're thinning out their hair. 3 of the cats don't seem to be a big deal as they're short-haired, but 2 are long-haired. I suspect they're what's clogging my nose up at night

I tried to talk to my mom about her anger issues. It seems that she might be bipolar and we all tried to get her to go see a counselor or something. She refused. :(

I've learned the hard way not to complain about any hair found in food cooked by ladies. :giggle:

I don't think so. She's behaving the way she is as a way of venting out her anger, as immature as I think it is. Self-absorbed, not thinking about the dangers to herself, the dangers to other drivers having to swerve around her, and the dangers to her family as we have to chase her down. She doesn't seem to be showing any other symptoms to Alzheimers. I just lost an uncle a few weeks back to Alzheimers, and mom doesn't behave at all the same way he did.

She could... But she's still in high school, that'd require having to drive her to school and back everyday, pay for food, get a bigger apartment to accommodate her, etc. Plus she's on her high school rodeo team and there's none around here and I KNOW I most certainly cannot accommodate her horse either because she would never move without having her horse come along.

We'll see where the future takes me. If my dad NEEDS my assistance, I'll just sell everything in my apartment and drive to California.

My 22 year old brother has bipolor. Life hasnt been easy for my dad and stepmom with him. He is still struggling to this day. Been in and out of prison for almost 10 years now.

I have an aunt who is bipolar. It took years to convince her to seek help -- she ended up living in an assisted living group home. She loves it there. She's been there about 20 years now.

Yeah, it definitely has not been easy for the rest of us either. Her issues ruined my relationship with the family and we're on rocky terms. I only speak to my parents about two or three times a year. She'd cry about every little thing or nothing at all, she'd blame us, scream at us for ruining her life, etc etc. We really tried to get her help.

My sister just texted me and said that my dad found her. We'll see what happens from there.

her irrational behavior is usually what a person with bipolar disorder would act like. It doesn't necessary mean your mom would be violently angry and get crazy. That's extreme case of BD.

Bipolar Disorder can make a person looks like they're just "different" from others.... eccentric. very spontaneous. always needing to feel liberated. doesn't like anything conventional/conservative. However... that usually ends in trouble.

I understand. It feels like when we kids are the ages we are, when our parents need help, we need to do it. Otherwise it's too heavy on the heart to not.

I hope your car can handle it especially with that amount of "NYC damage"

I do agree with all that. However, ever since I talked to her (sternly!) about it, she hasn't done that since. She used to talk about how Dad made her feel trapped (like you said -- "needing to feel liberated") We'll see how things play out from here on out.

Luckily, daughter stays out of the kitchen while I am cooking, and I pull it cup in a pony tail and bandanna when cooking.

Is she on meds or refuse to take them? When my brother is on meds, he is fine but without them, it is chaotic and it doesnt help that he is trying to recover from his drug addiction. I saw him when I went to AZ about a month ago...he had the shakes that addicts usually have when going through withdrawals. My heart just broke for him. Oh well.

She keeps claiming that she's not bipolar. We're all pretty sure she is, but she refuses to get diagnosed. We wish she could go get diagnosed and get meds so we can be a happy family again.

Lanapoo, I truly hope things work out for you and the family. Sounds like you have your hands and heart full. Glad to know that she was located and I hope things work out for her as well.
