There is different types of schizophrenia. Nit all are delusional or hallucinate. But yea most that are delusional thi k they Are jesus or something like the devil and ither famous figures there is a lot who think they are hitler

schizophrenia does hallucinate. this condition means you have trouble discerning the difference between reality and fantasy. the only difference is that some people can recognize it and some can't.

I believe their hallucination (or fantasy) is dependent on what they're fixated with from early on. a religious schizo would be more inclined to have religious hallucination and a Jack Bauer schizo fan would be more inclined to have paranoid "I am watching you" fantasy.

Oo its cuz there is like the catatonic type of schizophrenic. They are not necesarily hallucinating. Ok maybe i can be wrong. I know there is a catatonic schizophrenic but not sure if im wirght to aay that they dont have hallucinations.

Not necessarily thinking they're someone famous, but delusions of grandeur yes. A lot of them end up homeless, hiding, because they think they're inmportant in some way and that "the man" whatever is trying to find them.

they're homeless because they couldn't hold down the jobs and they couldn't be with people.

this problem continues to be a challenging one since Socrates (I think?) to convince a crazy person that he's crazy.....

yes - that's from the outside. it may seems like they gave up in life or something.

but inside.... they're stuck in their own world. who knows what's going on inside their mind so horrible that they couldn't move or speak. you know how when you're so frightened (either nightmare or real thing) - you couldn't move? same thing. but also - maybe they're enjoying so much in their fantasy that they were completely unaware that they're in fantasy... therefore stuck in their mind and unable to get out of it.

remember - it's all about convincing a crazy person that he's crazy...

Thanks i couldnt remeber what caused the catatonic state. But yes i know what it is had it happen it does suck. Convince the crazy person that they are crazy thats not going to be easy

Yes ditto, can you just see that local homeless nut who talks to himself work at the local McDonalds? "Would you like a side of conspiracy theories with that?"

And it is sad indeed that the crazy people don't think they are crazy. That's why in those recovery and addiction centers they say the first step is to admit that you have a problem. I know it sounds so elementary but for mental patients that's a big milestone to achieve.

Yes but how to convince someone that something is not real when in their mind it is? How to accept something that seems to be a lie to you.

The reference was to tissue loss in the brains of schizophrenic people over the course of a lifetime.

There are quite a few interesting studies that are readily available online.

Here is a visual example, comparing the brain of twins, one with schizophrenia, one without.
It is pretty dramatic.

Botti, I have read many books on this exact subject. I watch documentaries on any subject. I love to learn things that most people have no interest in. I can eat spaghetti and watch a real brain surgery at the same time. But....I get sick on roller coasters even merry-go-rounds. Funny thing I do when watching Grey's Anatomy is listen for the drug names they use to see if they get them right. HAHAHA The brain is very interesting to study. Especially now since mine is kind of messed up.

Good I haven't found anyone who can eat spaghetti and watch a real brain surgery.:giggle: I also find the mind fascinating.

Me too! Especially as I have high functioning autism and my stepmother was a psychiatric social worker.

I went through tons of behavior therapy as a kid, and due to my family, developed a major interest in the biological aspects of mental disorders.

My husbands niece is a psychiatric social worker in Maryland. All of my husbands family are in the medical field. I have always been interested in topics like autism etc.

After getting sick and my brain getting messed up, I like to read anything I can get my hands on about it. Try to figure out how it happened to me etc.

When I get bored I bring out my pharmacy books to see if I still have it.

Botti....are you safe from the tornadoes? Do you have a safe place to get to?
Just curious, since you can't hear the tornado sirens what do you do? How do deaf people stay safe?

I live so far away from most of but I am nervous for you.

One thing people, especially those not in an area that uses them, don't understand about tornado sirens is that they are designed for outdoor alerting. Even those that can hear at normal levels should not depend on them when inside buildings. This has been repeated a number of times recently on TV stations out of St. Louis, MO.

In this day and age we can have TV on and there are apps for cell phones that can be set to vibrate when alerts come to the phone.

I get warnings on mobile devices, and the plan is to go to a stairwell in the center of the house.

The main place for tornado activity here is a suburb about ten miles northeast of me.

:aw:dang I missed it too...

but yeah :ty: Botti for that info!

I'm also interested in this kind of thing...some of that may be due to my LD and some because I have worked with adults with severe-profound autism.
And, as a kid, I had years of speech therapy in a building with kids with various abilities and one of my earliest memories was that place, and the smell and the kids who rocked, flapped and banged their heads on the wall. Since I was a child, and particularly emotionally sensitive <which did affect social skills>, that situation left quite an imprint on me.
A few of my beloved aunt's earlier jobs were social worker and Ex. Ed teacher.

.....as far as tornadoes....I used to be able to hear the sirens from inside the house. We are on the outskirts of the official "Tornado Alley" but if conditions are right, we can have some serious ones. Today the wind here is really blowing, tore some shingles off our shed and I found a neighbor's wire trellis against our fence. But it's too cold here for any supercells which spawn tornadoes.

As a child I had a close call with 2 tornadoes - one was in my folks' car as we tried to get home, and the other was at elementary school. I remember how the afternoon sun went away and it got black and windy, soooooo black, and I was really scared for my little parakeet. I was maybe 9. The sirens were going off outside and in the school. The teachers had us get out of the classroom away from the windows and line up in "tornado cover position" - head down, butt up in the air, try to cover your head - against the interior wall in the hallway of the building. It was close to lunchtime and my mom had come to get me to take me home for lunch - we were about 5 minutes away from the school. Anyone who had come into the building for whatever reason was told to take shelter. It seemed like were lined up like that for a long time and we ate lunch on the floor in the hall, staying there til we got the all-clear.
