Tipping System

You are obviously ignorant to the fact that most servers work for below the minimum wage. They need the tips to make the ends meet. Thank you for proving the waitress right.

Oh yeah, forgot one more thing, even she works for below the minmum wage, it doesn't give her the right to charge to credit cards for tips without the owners' credit cards permission

I second that, and there is absolutely no excuse for deaf's failure to tip.

Here is the truth, most restaurant jobs waitress wage is around 3 dollars an hour! It is getting harder to earn living if there is no tips around.

Easy to find other job? Your must be kidding! Most good jobs starts from lousy job, waitress is one of them.

It is truly embarassement to Deaf world showing hearing people that we are ignorant.

Based on my experience, every time I give tips, they know me, they give us better service.

Deaf, WAKE UP! quit being ignorant, and being insulting... start to respect and give tip when due.

Finally I don't think this waitress should be paying restitution to Deafies, the Deafies is the one who should have pay for the damage.

You still miss the point...

If had Deafies giving tips, will she ever commit this crime? I don't think so.

Wait a minute! You didn't realize that the waitress could be giving horrible service that she doesnt' get any tips because of it

From what I see, majority of Deafies I have seen dont pay tips. Worse than hearing people.

Want to know how to properly tip waitress?

The best is between 10-20% of the reciept.

IF waitress gives poor service, what to do? Easy, just tip BUT at lower % like maybe 1%, this will tell waitress that I will tip more if you had done good job.

For example, if the reciept calls for 30 dollars, just give 50 cents tip, this is better than zero. That way you can send message that if you do better job I will give more tip. Zero tips tells waitress that they are worthless crap, that is how they view them.

I have done that, and it works!

Zero tipping is sending message as you don't care. low tip that is whole different approach.

The tips are based on service and gratuity... the waitress gets a low paying job because they get a lot of tips for the day from customers. No tips is rude and ignorance, if the service is poor, then give less tips. No one is perfect, everyone works hard the best they can. I've always tip the waitress no matter if they do good or poor job.

What the waitress did is a fraud, that's a no no. If she complained that deaf people don't give a tip, either don't serve them, or file complaint at the Gallaudet Officials. She is a mother of two, and struggling to make ends meet which is understandable but putting the tip amount on the receipt without customer knowledge is a forgery and fraud. Good thing she learn lesson and pays them back but on the other hand, the felony is going to be on her record which will not look good for her future reference for another job.

Oh yeah, I just remember another thing, isn't working below mininum wage against the law too?

Not really, know why? Most hearing people knows about it, its common and they hear from waitress or have worked as waitress knew whats going on. So, it won't hurt her reputation as much.

but on the other hand, it's going to be on her record which will not look good for her future reference for another job.

Minimum wage for tipped employment is somewhere 3.50 an hour I think.

Most Deafies don't realize that because not many of them have experience as waitress or had jobs that involved tips. That is the problem, they have no clue which I can understand, but still not an excuse anyway.

Yeah but I'm bet employers have fired her and the felony makes it hard to find a stable job though. The manager doesn't want to lose customers if they keep her on the job.

Hmm, it must depends on the states..here it's $5.15 an hour but it will go up to $6.55 in July

Do not confuse with standard minimum wage and tipped wages, they are not the same thing.

Standard wage now is 6.15, but when you work with a position that involves tips, your minimum wage will drop to around 3.50 an hour. Why not you go and apply job as waitress and find out for yourself?

I would but I already have a job but if I didn't then I would apply and find out for myself

Applying does not mean you will have to get that job. What I am saying go ahead and apply and find out and you can always tell them thanks for the offer but no thanks.

Or ask anyone that you know who works as waitress, they will tell you.
