All he wanted to know is who here can talk. It isn't about philosophy.
I'm relatively late deafened and I talk so much people probably wish I would shut up!

c'mon. don't be shy! confess to me!
Talkie Deafie? Yep, that's me. I'm sorry I ever learned to talk, though.
Clarification - what I'm asking is if there is any deafie in here who can VERBALLY communicate with hearing people fluently. That doesn't mean you have a very good understanding of English grammar. If you can FLUENTLY TALK but you are not easily understood by them (like me), that's ok.. you still count If you are late-deaf, you still count.
What doesn't count is - You speak only few words when communicating with hearies.
You get what I'm saying?
I am born deaf. Pretty much have shut up. I don't think anyone cares. I am certain people who know you are glad if you can talk to them.
This breaks my heart. I'm sure you have people in your life who want to "hear" what you have to say.
One to one with her daughter or any member of her family to talk oral or sign. If she sign with deaf members of the Deaf community in her area, then she will have something to say a lot, I think.
Count me in, I am what you say oral deaf. Used to have a speech impediment, now some just say I speak with a English accent. The public says "you speak so well, you can't be deaf". Yeah right!
Hearing people have told me many times that voices over the phone are somewhat distorted. They said there is an obvious difference when a voice is done in the flesh and when it is done through electronics (phone, TV, speaker, etc.)
I wonder if the CI makes this difference even bigger? Or perhaps CI therapy and mapping is always done in real life and they rarely take the phone into account?
If we do coffee, I will make the effort to talk .I am a talking deafie. I was completely mainstreamed without sign language. I am profound deaf in left ear, hh in right ear.
If we do coffee, I will make the effort to talk .
And I will make the effort to learn some signs. I already know a few but I am far from fluent!
Don't worry about it . I am far from a great signer. Kind of ASL mixed with home sign. :P
That will work. Hopefully we will be able to do coffee someday as I am already looking forward to it. You will also get to meet my DD as well. I don't plan on leaving her here!
The party could grow! I could invite granddaughters so she could have someone to talk to.
Cool. Might as well get some reservations at a restaurant then, lol. Wonder if they will book years in advance?
