The Storm....

Wow, I hope he can find someone to help. :(
Usually he's the one who helps his elderly neighbor lady. At least they are in a small apartment complex, so there are other people around.

The cast was all the way up to his shoulder. He has the cast off now (I was surprised they took it off so soon) but he can't use that arm for much yet. He can't straighten it or pull or push anything. He still has to shift his car with his left hand.

Blizzard is nothing! A wussy storm that anyone can survive. Its only snow. Thank god it is not like Hurricane!
Many people die in blizzards. :(

Let's just hope that doesn't happen this time.

we're not talking about blizzard or a wussy storm. nor'easter is no funny business.

so far.... 1 dead and 500,000 people without power... 4-5 inches of snow per hour... that's very serious.

Woke up to ....... nothing on the ground. Not even ice from yesterday's rain & wintry mix.
Am glad I don't need to salt the driveway or sidewalk.
It will be very cold with wind chills in the teens & 20s today.

Hope everyone north if me are ok.

I have 2 feet and it's still really coming down this morning. I had to unfreeze some pipes but that's a common occurance. I'm really glad to have power. My kids want to go outside but I don't think they can walk in it!

I added a few pics if it works. One is my snow shovel buried and the other is our car/driveway/deck.

hahaha cuz sometimes yall over react! Like when I lived in MD my first week of school it started snowing it looked like DUST, I kid you not, on the grass and people were flippin out! lol THEN there was an announcement that school was closing early due to the snow ..I was like what in the hell :ty:

my mom picked me up and was just laughing as I got in the car! I actually asked what a snow day was too...when I was in elementary school we didn't have snow days ..except once it was like el nino and it was an ice storm and there was no power so no school..but that was it. When I was in MD I had like snow weeks sometimes ...hahaha

In size terms, yes, we sometimes over react.

However, the snow we get here isn't like what you get in the mid-west. The truth is, you could die in the snow out here while skiing. In the west, it's like power and nobody gets hurt unless you hit a tree, but here it's half ice and snow so broken bones are not uncommon. It certainly doesn't compare, especially at the height of winter in February.

It's more ice they're worried about than the little bit of snow. They don't have equipment, plows or salt trucks, to take care of the roads.

:ty:

I hope you will be, too. It seems like you are pretty well prepared.

Thanks. Living here, we know that we get a big storm every once in a while. For the most part, people know what they have to do. It's places that rarely see snow that have problems. If you get snow in the south, people are not used to driving in it.

I've got about 3 feet of snow at my place. It would be about 1.5, but the wind has taken the 1.5 feet from the roof and put it in my driveway. It's going to be about a 3 hour dig out for me because it's higher than the snow blower can handle.

The drifts are crazy, aren't they? I've got from 10" to 2.5 feet or so, depending. I think 2 feet is a good average.

yea it's a good thing that this Nemo is quickly gone by dawn but there are some possible damages looming.... like heavy snow on roof. or icy buildups on trees/powerlines.

just came in from plowing all morning. started at 6 am and finished 8 ish. Now I am sitting down with a nice hot cup of coffee warming up. Its not as bad I thought we might get. schools canceled afternoon activities yesterday.

How many times have you heard that only one dead in the path of hurricane?

Sadly as I know, only one death for this Blizzard

we're not talking about blizzard or a wussy storm. nor'easter is no funny business.

First, it is very rare that roof collapse from weight of snow. I almost never heard of one, remember I said almost never heard of one. I do heard, and it was due to poor engineering job.

By the way, this is not the greatest snow falls, we had 4 foot fell overnight long time ago and have not heard of single roof collapse here in my area at that time.

Blizzard does not generally create icy build up on trees, you may refer to ice storm which is completely different than blizzard and more lethal and dangerous when it comes to ice storm. Ice storm usually happens when outside temperature is right below freezing point and the rain temperature is right above the freezing point which creates dangerous ice build up and yeah slicky icy road comes in mind too. Blizzard usually don't have these problems.

BTW, I am done with clean up from blizzard. Man! That is it? 20 minutes of clean up, thank god it is not ice storm or Hurricane!

The snow wasn't really the dangerous part of this storm, just a major inconvenience. The huge winds, precipiation and high tides at the coast are the real problem and are dangerous. I'm glad I don't live on Cape Cod right now.

Hope everyone is safe.

That is true. Its not the depth of the snow on roofs that causes issues. its the wetness. All the houses/buildings are designed for snow loads. If it collaspes, you can bet your behind that it was not a legal building nor did an inspection.

I have a pet peeve here -- people were calling nemo a blizzard for all of northeast area. its was a blizzard conditions down in new england area, but certainly not in rochester area. its just another snow event. lol. I am glad to live in this area.

Stay warm to those who are caught in this blizzard. Saw on the news that overnight was rough with the strong winds. We are getting some of the winds but not as strong.

It's the huge winds that had me concerned. The last time we had a snow storm, five telephone poles went down in the street. It's amazing that no one got killed. I thought the light post in my parking lot would come down or get blown up against the condo, but fortunately it wasn't that strong. It manage to keep the condo cold given the direction of the wind which lasted for much of the night. We kept our power in my area and it looks like the worst of it for my city was a lot of snow....

According to CNN's latest report on their home page, 4 are dead. It appears at least 2 of the deaths are vehicle-related.

Took me about 3.5 hours to dig out. There is still a driving ban so I may go for a walk. Hope everyone is doing OK.

My brother's place; cars buried in snow.
