The Storm....

Imagine waking up this morning and seeing this? Someone did in Fairfield, Connecticut!

Looks like it is a snowdrift. They can reach several feet high. I saw some pretty tall ones here in MD during the blizzards of '09 and '10.

What gets me about this storm is that we had a driving ban for two days and they still didn't plow all the streets. Seriously, we've never had it before and it doesn't seem like it made things any better.

Driving ban? that isn't supposed to happen... Don't you guys pay taxes to have trucks plow all the streets?

oh sure, but that's Boston, have no idea why they haven't plowed yet, but imagine it's hard to clean that all up, Boston has a wicked lot of streets.

Some towns have better snow clean up budgets than others, and some towns just have more streets! I used to to live n Hudson NH, a mostly residential town. The towns to the west of and north of us, Manchester and Nashua, much more populated, and lots more businesses. Even if you weren't from the area, if you were driving through those towns during or after snow you could tell where the cities lines were. The roads would go from nice and clear, Hudson, to a snowy mess, Manchester and Nashua.

I don't think they've gotten tons of snow this year, but in the past there's been winters where it snowed repeatedly. Snow won't melt until it warms up, so snow removal can be a problem in parking lots and whatnot. You can only push it over so far and pile it so high, so they they have to cart to off somewhere.

The Midwest is next.

We had our "blizzard", but it was nothing compared to out East. We actually had bigger snowstorms back in December. My area got about one foot over the weekend.

No driving ban...how do people get to work?....and are you paid or salaried during these Blizzards when you cannot go to work?....

I don't know. My brother lives in CT, and he was snowed in, couldn't go to work. If he doesn't work, he doesn't get paid, simple. I hope he missed only one day of work.

This is the first time we have done this. I'm not sure if NY or other places do the same thing. Only emergency personal are allowed to drive, risk is $500 fine or a year in jail.

Unclear how loosely or strictly enforced this is because cops obviously have their hands full during these times.

Businesses shut down or people work from home. I don't believe they can dock you pay during a state of emergency if you are on salary. However, if you are not on salary I don't think you get paid.

Right. Non-salary workers don't get paid unless their bosses do it out of the goodness of their hearts. Same for self-employed people. No work, no income.
