And yet, they try to use faith as an argument against logic and science. Go figure.

Apparently my parents think I am going to hell because I do not go to church every Sunday. Sigh. This is why when they talk religion, I and most the rest of the family start walking out of the room. I wonder how long until the notice??? :giggle:

Then both of us are going to burn in the lake of fire! Poor us!

There is a lake of Fire??? Oh, good Lord! (oops! I'm going straight to Hell for that one!) :giggle:

If our ideas about god never evolved, we'd be building temples for Zeus and Athena right now.

Ummm, many stories in the bible are not intended to be read as literal. Having said that, some religions do take everything in the bible literally.

Besides, you cannot argue logic with faith. They are two different things. One would think that logic would always apply, but after a number of conversations with my own parents I realize that logic goes out the window so I gave up discussing religion with them.

And isn't that the beauty of faith (not hope or want but real faith) - it so often defies logic yet it is exactly what gets so many people through difficult or trying times.

By the chaplains and commanders.
That certainly sounds like these officers are stepping way out of bounds.

Are they saying that to all Iraq veterans or just your friends? I confess, this is the first I've heard of it. It certainly should be newsworthy.

Actually, he did make two mistakes. He made Adam and Eve. If they were perfect, then how did they give in to their temptations?

How can a human being with free will be capable of being perfect?

It's an oxymoron.
You misread.

I didn't say they were being perfect. I said they were created perfect.

They started out with flawless bodies and brains, innocent spirits, and nothing bad in their backgrounds.

In our present flawed bodies, souls, and spirits we are NOT capable of being perfect because we were born imperfect.

Although Jerry Falwell is dead, I still see signs of the RR movement in Lynchburg, VA. When we had the elections in the last few years, RR came out in droves in Lynchburg.
What would those "signs" be?

Many of the nursing students that I see when I'm in the hospital are from Liberty University.
Point?

Exactly. Demonizing them dehumanizes them and makes it much easier to commit cold blooded murder. Mei Lai massacre, anyone?
Are you accusing American officers of ordering cold blooded murders in Iraq? Certainly that wouldn't be part of the Obama administration's policy.

I do.

has nothing to do with the policy. Policy is one thing, what actually happens in war is another.

saying that our soldiers are not perfect and do commit atrocities during war is not a slight against them, just the reality of it.

anyway....

sigh....suppose I'll end up joining Jillio and Banjo in that lake - who's gonna bring the marshmallows??
oh, and is it skinny dipping?

No doubt Reba doesn't believe me, nor my friends. I know them pretty well, and I do not think they all are lying. I just wish you could see them as they tell their stories. You would know they speak the truth. :(

Anyway, I am getting out of this thread before I cause more hurt feelings.
I didn't say that they were lying. I would like to know how widespread, in time and by numbers involved, this problem is, and if anything is being done about it.

It's so hard to determine what's going on with so little information.

I do.

Yes, policy is important. Policy influences who gets away with breaking the rules. If this is a top-down policy of indoctrination, it's a serious violation and should be routed out.

saying that our soldiers are not perfect and do commit atrocities during war is not a slight against them, just the reality of it.
It's not a slight against those who are proved to be guilty. It is a slight to paint them all with the broad brush of guilt.

Going to Heaven or Hell has nothing to do with the frequency of church attendance.

Then both of us are going to burn in the lake of fire! Poor us!
I hope for your sakes that doesn't happen. :( An eternity of burning pain without relief, alone, in the dark, is nothing to joke about.

We'll have a lot of company there, including God's "chosen people".
Actually, no. Each person is alone, in the dark, in Hell. There is no fellowship there.
