that's a legitimate concern. complications *do* happen and not everyone's body accepts the implant. some people (like travis) also experience migraine headaches because of their ci's, so that's yet another concern.

So is someone sticking you in an MRI scanner after an accident. I think Foxrac had that happen.

actually, today's ci's have removeable magnets so a person can receive an mri safely that is up to 1.5 tesla. all that's needed is a small incision to remove the magnet and it is stitched right back up, no problem.

Still scared.:aw:

there's no danger of the mri scan doing any damage to the internal implant since it is protected underneath the skin. however, i can still understand your fear. i have a medic alert bracelet which specifically says "no mri" even though i'm able to receive them. i feel better not having them in the first place, but that's just me.

Also I am not a candidate anyway because of severe auditory nerve damage. So it is only in theory I am scared of them.

I confess to a little anxiety problem.

Gee. It could be a small leak on your roof. Just check in the attic to see if there is a wet plywood under the roof.

We found out what is causing it. The eves above my south wall are too short, so the snow on the roof above my house slowly melts and flows down to the edge of the eves and freezes, making a fillet of ice. Drips roll around that fillet and back up the eves underneath to the wall and seep into the walls. Apparently, this is common in areas that sometimes get a lot of snow, but not always, and there's actually a word for it in New England, but since I don't live there, I don't know it. Anyway, the cure is to keep the ice from building up on the eves. So I have to go up there every day and chip off all the ice. I think this summer, I'm gonna build extensions on my eves. I know they're short on the south side because we get a lot of wind here, but I guess that just means I'll be building really strong eves. Please warn me if this is a bad idea. I don't want my roof blown off in the wind. But neither do I want my wall to rot from water damage.

Haven't online that much cuz i was busy with my b/f :D also thankd god i m night off trw and xmas day too...and will spend with my family while my b/f will be gone to mich to see his's family i will miss him. Now i m done eat salad i don't feel like cook

that's okay bott and is perfectly understandable. if you have *any* anxiety where ci's are concerned, your best bet is not to get one until you feel completely comfortable (or at least as comfortable as possible). in your case though (due to your auditory nerve damage), the point is moot.

I was also told that I have severe auditory nerve damage, but I was ALSO told I would never hear again, so I don't know what to believe. Maybe I'm a candidate after all. But this was my 9th audiologist, and I'm tired of them. But I've changed my mind about things before. Only time will tell if I'll go back to the doctor. I don't think my hearing could possibly signify anything life-threatening. I feel better not putting my life in the hands of people who don't know jack.

mints, i mentioned this to you once before, but people who have auditory nerve damage are eligible to qualify for abi's (auditory brainstem implants). they work similarly to the ci except that the brainstem is stimulated instead of the auditory nerve (i'm aware that you're not interested in receiving an abi. i just thought i'd mention this for the information of others).

Well, like I said, who knows, I might one day change my mind. I'm never afraid to learn something new. I never know when I might be able to use the information :)

I have found out that my phone bill has risen to almost $300 for the next month, my sister and my mother used my cellphone to make international calls :mad2: Now, no one loves me since I get no messages.

wtf? don't they ever heard of calling card?

Now, no one loves me since I get no messages.
because everybody's busy with holidays and/or they're on vacation somewhere else

exactly. it's an unacceptable risk for me. i don't want ANYTHING that fiddles with my brain. if they do implant inside my ear (some nanotechnology or whatever)... fine.... but drilling a hole in my skull and mapping.... no thank you. it's not a pleasant thought for me.

Not to mention, there's always a chance hopefully that sometime in the future in our time, they may have new methods of restoring hearing by 'reactivation' of vestibulocochlear nerve for those with sensorineural hearing loss. Last I was reading some time ago, they were trying to reproduce nerve cells in pigs but that was quite some time ago.

that's what stem cell research is for

Quick question: Does getting a CI mean you also lose all form of natural hearing? I mean, completely naturally deaf without the CI on.

I have $120 credit of 'international call's in my plan and it wasn't used..

...unfortunately, true.
