STDs still on the rise, report says

Well, it was part of my sex education, as well, and I attended a public high school. Certainly wouldn't hurt to show them. A dose of reality is what is called for when discussing the topic.

Yeah.....but I was 10 years at the time!

If it scared you enough to make you think about protecting yourself, then I would say, "Yes, it helpd." In my opinion, STDs are something every sexually active person should have a healthy fear of.

And unfortuantely we have some individuals that don't think it will happen to them.

Oh, my! Maybe your parents considered you to be precocious.:giggle:

Yep. What doesn't seem to be getting across is that everyone is at risk.

...Maybe we should be showing pictures of STDS to students????
That's how they trained us in the Navy. During GMT (general military training) we watched a video of graphic photos of STDs (called VD/venereal disease back then). Attendance was mandatory.

We were also tested for STDs each year during our annual physicals.

Don't you think that helped reduce sex/transmission?

Maybe they should start showing these pictures to kids at age 13 and up?

i can't imagine the horror expression on their faces. It'd be like :-o:barf::eek2:

Better they have those expressions before it happens to them than after it happens to them.

I'm wondering about that shot gardsil (spellings way off) for teen girls and young adult women... if that would just at least make a dent out of those numbers? I know it only stops very very few strains

I hope that makes a dent. Vaccines tend to. Remember how rabies were scary and probably numerous in the old days until Louis Pasteur came up with his vaccine? We hear nothing bad about rabies these days now, though it can be nasty. Additionally, knowledge makes more of a dent in the statistics if imparted properly, imo.

The good news is that biotechs are always working on vaccines and cures, so I wouldn't be surprised to see something good on the market next year or within the decade!

*gasp* Could a cure for HIV/AIDS be within our reach?

Males can contract HPV, too.

Still, we shouldn't be in a rush to vaccinate every single person. That's just silly and by doing so, we're not taking into consideration the possible side effects of these vaccines.

I won't even get a flu vaccine.

That's is why you are given a choice.

Could be lots of things or a combination of things.

We have a huge percentage of snow birds and transplants from other states, large number of rural poor, decades of inadequate public education, cultural traditions, high acceptance of unwed motherhood, etc.

Facts are facts. No comprehensive sex education leads to a rise of STDs and unwanted teen pregnancies. There are no credible studies which state otherwise.

Sure it is. Not teaching teens how to prevent STDs = Teens getting STDs.

der?

Did you know in the most conservative states teen pregnancy/STDs are the highest?

I find that very very interesting considering that most of the conservatives are so critical of pre-martial sex or same-sex relations....
