Spokeo.com

You want to find long-lost friend or love? get a facebook. FB does a better job at this and it's not that intrusive at all because it's 100% voluntary.

Great resources for the gold diggers.

there's a difference between censorship and facilitation.

was spokeo set up with facilitate harassers/stalkers in mind? I doubt it.

Spokeo is pretty simple really - if a stalker was really up to stalking, he could do the exact same thing spokeo does, within 30 minutes, max.

based on what? They're profiting off lazy people - so... They're successful in their business tactic. If you don't want your information on the net, take it off, and put in misleading information in facebook. ;)

I've got a problem with people profiting on creepy people.

Then you would have a problem with all the bars out there?

However - I greatly doubt spokeo has that big of a "creepy" customer base, compared to the piracy capabilities of torrents.

1. creepy stalker
2. insurances
3. employers
4. your associates
5. etc.

they don't need to know full detail about me including my income, family and my property value.

Spokeo has info on my last married address and my address where I was just after I was divorced. But it does not have anything on my current address and my current or maiden name. LOL

thank god my name is not listed, but my username/email etc was. =/ So I removed myself from there.

Grrrrr. I was removing my email address from the site. And I got this warning message:
In order to prevent abuse, we must limit the number of privacy requests per email address.
Government officials please use your @.gov email address for priority processing.

this was after I removed my married address and former divorced address.

I find Spokeo idea very distasteful. It's ironic. The government are cracking down on torrent sites for simply displaying results which hosts NO illegal software/movie/music in its server but they claim it facilitates piracy... so why not Spokeo? It facilitates stalking, harassment, etc.

Just because our information is "out there" in public registry doesn't mean any site has rights to make it much easier for one to look up on people. I don't see any useful purpose for this site. How is it beneficial for public???

I forgot to discuss about this with my law friend. I'd like to see a class action lawsuit on sites like Spokeo and I hope that our privacy law is as stringent as Europe.

I forget, how did you stand on Wikileaks?

I used this site to determine scammers also. If they used a proxy to gain membership, the IP was untraceable. When I would search Spokeo with the email address, it would show other sites where this email was used, such as MySpace, Photobucket, etc. I would see several different people using one email address, that would trigger the flush mechanism from me. I did not abuse this privilege. I also felt a great deal of responsibility to the members to protect them from scammers.

What is Wikileaks? I have never heard of that before.

Similar to formerly Limewire? Yeah Limewire shut down few months ago.

There is a site called Spokeo.com that's a new online USA phone book with personal information; everything from pics you have posted on FB or web, your approx credit score, pics of where you live, income, age. Remove yourself by searching your name, find the page of yourself, copy the URL and then go to the bottom of the page and check on the Privacy link to remove yourself. Copy and re-post, so your FB friends are aware!

This site is really scary... too much information...
Thank you!! I check to Spokeo.com wonderful I like it..

Yes, exactly. I saw it is almost everything about me. Creepy... Even they had my mobile phone number, they know I'm live with two people in my home, and my home address! AND ETC ETC! Oh, oof! It's not need to! :ugh: So I deleted that link of my personal page before I alerted FB'ers.

Very scary.

Wikileaks was a website that published anonymous submissions and leaks of sensitive governmental, corporate, organizational, or religious documents, while attempting to preserve the anonymity and untraceability of its contributors

I checked out quite a few names from family and old friends. Not much was accurate. For me, it lists my hubby and MIL as being my parents and says that I own the house when MIL does. For my oldest brother, it says I am his child. For an old boyfriend, it shows him alive and well here in town. He died 10 years ago to suicide and was not here at the time.
