So let's say I gave AllDeaf ownership to you...

the best feature of this forum is SPY tool. It's awesome to see real-time updates.

1. add more skins
2. add more emoticons
3. better editor tool/function if you're writing long post
4. eliminate several subjects
5. add one more rule - NO IMMATURE FOOLS PLZ
6. eliminate sigs or whatever - it sucks to see a person writing a few words or 1 line post and it takes up quite a portion of screen because of sig or whatever.
7. THAT'S IT!

First, thanks for old tagdeaf and fun place you made there. I forgot my screen name there because I did not use it for about a year. But, when I did use it I made a lot of friends.

Only suggestion for here: Check out pleantyoffish.com... It is the #1 internet dating sight. It is completely free, no charges ... nothing. So, there are millions there. The owner gets $$ from sidebar ads and that is enough to make him happy. Maybe you can figure out a way to do something like that?

Anyways, Alex is awesome!

OOPS, wrong URL

Oops, wrong URL for pleanty of fish. Here is the right one:

Plentyoffish.com Free Online Dating Service & Dating Site

I'd add a science subforum!
The rest is just fine the way it is. Good work, Alex!

Yes it is a MUST! There are already several science news in the current events forum. in addition, I already have had at fifteen threads ready for the science subforum, should Alex added it under Technology forum. :)

I would like to see Alex add several movie or sci-fi themes so we can choose one of them. :)

I think Political view need to be separate instead of argue and against other opinions and disagree each other. Moderators can't handle with it same as Religion Forums. I have an idea for AllDeaf need to make a "mark" on each boxes for their interest go to Religions view, Health, Political, General Chat.

For example:

Christian and Atheist need separate in thread and group instead of flame war each other.

Conservative and Liberal and Green Party need to separate from thread mixed

Pro-Life and Pro-Choice need to separate from thread too.

Why not make a groups and invite for identity views?

I have an idea for Moderator or Head Moderator. If they are not in thread to read people's violence posts. Someone can report to Moderator or HM and can kick out or ban to someone to learn their lesson.

I'm telling you the truth. I saw other hearing forum's debate is simple unlike here in AD. I wish not have a flame war in AD.

The AD member shouldn't be criticize and bash on other views.

I would like to see the political rhetoric be lowered somewhat; therefore, their discussions can be more civil. I think the excess of political, social, moral and religious rhetoric is the main reason that sets off flaming wars between members. There is one thing that I cannot agree with you about separating threads between conservatives and liberals, believers and atheists, and so on. Perhaps the moderators can be bit less complacent. I want to make it clear that I enjoy reading discussions that Jillio, Jiro and Reba have made in some political threads.

I have been in one of the largest hearing forums whose rules are somewhat less stricter than here for many years and it is amazing that the hearing members are able to discuss and rant in political threads in a civil way.

Hmm, having been back for a few months, but only posting the last, I'd like to contribute some of my thoughts based on preexisting vBB plugins in mind. Most of my suggestions are based more on the overall aspect of the forum GUI, rather than the domestic issues that are caused or created by them.

Skins/Themes: If a lot of people are asking about this, might as well toss them a few extra skins. I've found that 5-10 is a good number, anything over the amount of 10+, especially way above, becomes excess and most average people do not bother to change their skin styles (this coming from my other forum admin'ing experience). They don't even know where it is for some. Be warned however, I do recall based on experience from a few sites - some skins, especially if too fancy, have exploits that allow hackers to compromise an user's information depending on what it is that they can do. Usually it's a form of scamming or keylogging.

CYB ( Cyb - Advanced Permissions Based on Post Count - vBulletin.org Forum ) : It's a great way to automatically get rid of a good amount of forum spammers so that they can't even spam at the start that they register. This is especially nice if the mods don't like having to deal with them when they pop up everytime. Granted, this affects some of the forum lurkers as well, but you can't have everything right? I don't condone nor support using it, I just find it a handy tool to have.

Tagging/Marking of webcrawlers and bots: With that huge guest list, most admins understand that the higher trafficking payload your site has, the higher chance that those search engines are crawling about and indexing your forums. You can assign their IPs to an account like assign 66.249.73.* to an account called Google Bot, 72.30.179.* to Yahoo! Bot, etc. This way people can be aware of what they're crawling or tracking about, and it does promote more awareness of letting them know of what they are posting is getting indexed.

That's all I had in mind, everything else seems working fluidly. Thanks in advance for looking into what I said.

EDit:

Oh yes, and one last suggestion, just occurred to me.
Custom Categorization Icons - Ever thought of doing custom icons per forum category? Pictures mean a thousand words, and would make the categorizing of the forums very unique / help out any new poster, or the old. For the new, it'll help them by finding the right picture to post their topic. For the old, they can immediately recognize the icon and click it instead of having to read the words each time. I'm not sure if vBB supports this, as I've never looked into it myself but always thought about doing it, just never had the motive to get started. For an example, let me do a quick watered down version of what I mean:

 - Introduce yourself (picture of a new guy or icon symbolizing newness/welcome)

[icon of a PC monitor] - Computers, Electronics, IT & Gaming (picture of a PC for the members to understand that this is an area for technology)

[iconified portrait of a person] - Pictures and Videos (picture of a person showing that our pics are here)

Get my drift?

I would like to see an automatic grammar and spell check for posting, which will prohibit posts and threads that aren't proper grammar and spelling. Also, I'd like to see an automatic search for when someone quotes something that the website does an Internet search for possible plagiarism and prohibits that post that doesn't have the credit.

Not sure about the plagiarism part, I would assume it would take a bit more time till they'd invent something like that to work with a forum.

As for spellchecking - very easy, do you have Firefox? use the dictionary plugins:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:3

Can't say the thing about grammar though.. That's up to user discretion.

it doesn't recognize stuff like net slang and jargon, but it's good enough to catch every other properly typed sentence word mistakes. Hell, I see it on a daily basis, why do ya think I never spell wrong haha!

grammar check isn't accurate.
spell check = firefox can do that for you.
plagiarism check = it costs money for that service. a very popular service - Turnitin: Home: Welcome to Turnitin

IMO - I feel offended having to submit my papers to turnitin.com in order to hand it in. Some universities dropped it because they said why? we have the honor code.

I agree. Besides, I post in an attempt to converse, not to submit credited arguments. If I'm quoting somebody, it's usually quite obvious. I usually say who I'm quoting anyway because I want people to know where I get my information. They might think I'm smarter that way :giggle: If I don't, it's just because I'm seeing if anybody else recognises the quote and knows where it came from. I quote My Little Pony a lot. So far, nobody has ever caught me. At least, none that have been willing to admit it. :)

Alex,

I would like for you to add...

More color themes, more smileys and more icons,
Making an announcements or breaking news to let everyone know whats up with alldeaf.com or out of world to keep in touch...
Add new animated icons too...

Good Luck with those improvements on alldeaf.com

Hope to see something new on here..:)

Oh by the way, Alex

Remove all the banned usernames that are not here anymore... and remove the spammers because it annoys us and giving us a hard time to delete it off for a reason.

More easier for us to know that all of them are gone...less problems.

Thanks!! :)

Having to check if something is stolen is a lot of work.

As for spell checkers, there are plug-ins and internet browsers that have these built in. That way, you don't have to expect it from only AllDeaf, but from all websites that you go to... including your emails. :thumb:

I'm not sure if this is correct but Alex does not remove banned names because if it's removed from database - that name can be reused.
