Shooting at LAX; casualties

Actually, gun free zone laws are regulated by people who have a fear of guns with no statistical evidence to back up their claims.

I kind of wish Airportcop was here to join this discussion. He was recently in a motorcycle accident but I can ask him to come back.

Do you think security measurement at airport is just like school?

We haven't hear about any gun incidents that occur in secured area after 9/11, but we have few incidents that related to bombing, especially liquid bombing in 2006 and bomb attempt in near Detroit airport in 2009.

Oh, I forgot about Airportcop. I hope he's alright by now.

Maybe someone could start a new thread about airport security, HINT, HINT....

What about the front entrance? Anyone who gets through it can shoot people.

that's why there are dozens of police officers patrolling around. that's why this nut didn't do much killing.

If only someone had been carrying they could have prevented this senseless act of violence.

definitely not an armed citizen unless he's willing to get accidentally shot by cops.

If a cop "accidentally" shoots someone, don't you think that is a training problem?

How long did it take for the cops to come to the aid of the TSA agent? Don't you think it might have been mere minutes too late?

What makes an armed police officer more qualified to defend you, than you defending yourself?

I don't know if a quicker response would have made a difference in this case. It seems that the TSA agent was the first target of the shooting, so there might not have been a way to stop those first shots.

However, it did say that the shooter came back a second time to finish off the victim. It's possible that if the agent himself had been armed he might have survived the first attack and prevented further casualties. I would say that as a special agent (behavior specialist, NOT a pat-down inspector) he should have been armed.

I don't know the exact time-line of the shooting, so it's speculation on my part but it's food for thought when they have their lessons-learned debriefing.

a seasoned cop?

oh well. RIP.

he is authorized to use an armed force in a high-security area... not me. and I certainly do not want to get shot by cops.

if that TSA agent was armed... it would be like Empire State Building shooting. multiple victims accidentally shot by TSA agent. no doubt for sure.

I'm talking about the one who was killed. He could have shot back at the guy shooting him. Why would you assume he would shoot other people?

why would you assume that he can shoot back accurately at the shooter? I seriously doubt it. I believe he would spray because he just got shot.

If Joe Blow pulled out his gun during LAX shooting how long do you think it take before a cop shot Joe Blow?? How is a cop going to know if Joe Blow is trying to defend himself or kill innocent people. If someone has a death wish
is will be answered really fast pulling out their gun during a mass shooting.

Since neither you nor I know the exact circumstances of the shooting, the condition of the victim (extent of his wounds), the victim's training background or shooting skills, who was in the area when he was shot, and lots of other variables, no conclusion about the possible outcome can be made.

If you think that the better of two scenarios is to just lie on the floor wounded, wait for the shooter to come back to finish you off, and continue to shoot other innocent victims, that's your prerogative. I would prefer that he would have had a fighting chance.
