Do you lean heavily on science (me!) than you do on spiritual matters, or vice versa? Inquiring "free thinker" wants to know.

Science all the way! Where science can't explain it, search within your free thinking mind.

both?

Sorry guys there is absolutely no room for spiritality in matters of fact (science).

Ever heard of a Christian Scientist? Yeah they do exist you know. Even Darwin was a Christian.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH....

You went there.

P.S.... You somewhat just discredited yourself as a "free-thinker"

Christion Science people, from what I understand, do not give their children medications when they are ill. Instead they prey to the air. No science there.

Darwin was a Christian with fundamental DOUBTS about god.

so AquaBlue.... you're not a free-thinker?

I wonder what you think about scientists who believe in the Big Bang Theory, but they also believe that SOMETHING (a higher being) caused the big bang?

Are you setting me up (somehow) with this question Jiro? That;s the vibe I;m getting. My mind is no banded by a ball-and-chain weight called religion if that's what you mean. Science is all we TRULY have...and...mythology.

I have not really read anything Hawkins books yet (strange indeed), nor othe BIG BANG scientists so I reserve my answer. I do know that there is much contraversy so I stray from that subject somewhat.

if one is a free-thinker, one usually accepts all perspectives.

Now I will surrender this fact: I read my bible twice a week; and, also, I used to be a god fearing man in my YOUTH so I can truly say that I understand both sides of the same coin. But I only agree with science because faith can't be measure using the scientific method. I would love to take the GOD drug again and be happy in that addiction but I would only be fooling myself.

you would think so Jiro. That makes very good sence. But a Free thinker, as defined in scientific circles, is a person who is "free" from the restraints of religion and open to the evidence presented by sience. That's how FREE THINKERS are defined today. I do not like the term because it could be misunderstood to mean something else...like your definition Jiro.

Instead, I think that Free Thinkers should be erased and the phrase, Science Believers (or something similiar to that) might be better so as confusion of terms might not happen.

I'm assuming that you believe that all results of science is PROVEN and TRUE. Don't get me wrong, I love science, but once upon a time, scientists believed in things as "true" that were proven wrong later. One of my friends brought up a good point the other day. He was irritated by the idea that the "Theory of Evolution" is taken to be absolute truth, as if there is indisputable evidence that supports it. Yes, there is evidence of natural selection and scientists have extrapolated 100 years of natural selection into millions of years of evolution with carbon dating (which is proven accurate but still all relative anyway since you need to know how much carbon a being has in the first place while living). Right now, evolution is the BEST theory possible with the most evidence, but does that mean it is absolute truth?

It IS "THEORY" of evolution, after all.

so you're saying Free Thinker is more of a science that discredits religion?

Well, somehow, someway, there was an atom that started this universe. How could this happen without God?
