Richard Matt And David Sweat, Convicted Murderers, Escape From New York Prison

Does the city set aside money to be only used for hunting escape convicts? I would think the city had better use for 22 millions dollars . And now taxpayers have to spend money to keep the fool woman in jail b/c
she wanted "to feel special" .

no. it's probably from the state's "emergency" fund for exigency purpose but since this was a multi-agency efforts from all levels... it will also comes from the feds' pockets.

state issues like road repairs, schools, salaries, etc are already budgeted and approved long beforehand.

Ok , I just hate seeing good money wasted on people like Matt and Sweat.

it's already being wasted on incompetent politicians' salaries, corrupted people, rigged bids, and bunch more. oh well.

I think what he meant was that the city wouldn't have money anyway for road repair or school- not that much anyway. Whether or not the city is paying for the manhunt, the city wouldn't have the money anyway... budgets are never as big as they say they are.

Also, I believe that $22 millions funding is from state, not city.

I'm sure that state already have funding appropriation for emergency cases like prison escapees and manhunt.

Joyce Mitchell transferred to Clinton County Jail

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y., July 7 (UPI) -- Joyce Mitchell, a prison seamstress accused of helping two convicted murderers escape from Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York, has been transferred to Clinton County Jail to await trial, officials said Tuesday.

Mitchell was transferred from Rensselaer County Jail outside Albany, N.Y., to Clinton County Jail in Plattsburgh, Clinton County Sheriff David Favro told MyChamplainValley.com. She is awaiting trial.

She is accused of helping David Sweat, 35, and Richard Matt, 49, escape from the prison June 6 by passing them tools hidden inside frozen hamburger meat. She was reportedly going to meet the two men after they left the prison and drive them to a second destination, but she backed out at the last minute.

The men headed north toward Canada, prompting a massive, weeks-long manhunt. Matt was shot dead by police on June 26, and Sweat was shot and arrested by police two days later.

Mitchell has pleaded not guilty to charges of promoting prison contraband, a felony, and criminal facilitation, a misdemeanor. She is being held on $110,000 bail or $220,000 bond, awaiting trial.

She faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.

All over the places, even a government whether it's a city, state or federal, they do make investments and buy insurances. A long time ago, I remember Jiro mentioning that the city's insurance pays for the lawsuit on police brutality or whatever.

Alright....

this kind of thing is not covered by city's insurance.

Oh, then where does the city get money to pay many lawsuits?

depending on what kind of lawsuits... most likely from insurances and/or their own pockets (taxpayers). but a manhunt is not covered by insurance.
