Not much different from the the poor widow's offering in Luke 20:45 to 21:4. I will grant that Obama didn't give away everything like the widow but it's possible he has given more than others or perhaps he has donated more then others. :dunno:

I agree that who gave more is just ridiculous. It's petty too.

I agree. I know that people gave more because they heard Obama gave away his Nobel Prize bucks. So, it doesn't matter what percent of his earnings he donated---his total will always exceed mine overall. It IS petty.

yes. Looking at what Obama has in terms of personal asset... he doesn't have much. Just a nice cozy house in Illinois.

You are right that war cost mega bucks. You are also right that what's done is done, whether we liked it or not. Not much we can do about the past other than vote out people who we blame for those past decisions.

However, with elections coming up, we still have an opportunity to do something about future spending and taxing.

I fear that spending and taxing will continue whether we like it or not. Oh well.

what beowulf said. same old song we hear at every election and promises were repeatedly broken.

Depends on the other variables that need to be considered. A narrow focus on the information used to arrive at a statistic only needs to misleading statistics. If you want to determine the finanacial sacrifice made, then you must consider all variables that would affect the overall outcome. At least, you will need to do so if you want an accurate and fair picture.
bingo

When it comes to politicians, it applies. Politicians who are eager to tell other people how their money should be spent better have standards equal to or above that which they require for others.
let us look at... say big-name evangelists. They all have charity programs. So why do "polarizing" evangelists need all these fancy stuff and mansions?

see the picture there? it's not how much you donated. It's how you donated it.... money laundering.

It's both; how much and to which organizations.

Obama was generous to one of those "polarizing evangelists" but not so generous to other charities.

Obama Tax Returns: Low On Story Lines And Charity Donations

I'm not sure that would qualify as money laundering though.

"Conduct/acts designed in whole or in part to conceal or disguise the nature, location, source, ownership or control of money (can be currency or equivalents, eg. checks, electronic transfers, etc.) to avoid a transaction reporting requirement under state or federal law or to disguise the fact that the money was acquired by illegal means."
Legal Definition of Money Laundering

Personally, I never donate money to big-name TV evangelists but people have that right.

His "cozy house":

"2008 Democratic Party presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) purchased his current primary residence, a 6400 square foot house on a 70 foot by 150 foot lot in Kenwood, Illinois for 1.65 million U.S. dollars in June 2005. In January 2006, he purchased a 10 foot wide by 150 foot long strip on the south side of his property for $104,500, bringing the full dimensions of his property lot to 80 feet by 150 feet, increasing its size from 10,500 square feet to 12,000 square feet."

that's it? sounds like a normal upper-middle class family.

Thats what I was thinking...

after Obama's gone from White House... as a private citizen - Donald Trump's wealth and assets makes him look like a valet guy for his hotel.

that's it? sounds like a normal upper-middle class family.
So, you consider that "cozy"? I guess I've been living in my low-class 2,100 sq. ft. dump for too long to recognize real middle class life.

then be a politician :giggle:

Yet, during the years 2000-2004, the Obamas donated less per year from their upper-middle class incomes, than Hubby and I did from our low class incomes. :hmm:

then be a politician :giggle:
Are you saying they are in it for the money?

No thanks, I prefer to sleep at night with a clear conscience. :giggle:

Not a bad deal for a couple with a combined annual income of $207,647, with a bad credit history, and still owing $240,000 on their condo. :giggle:

still a piddly amount compared to millionaires' financial history.

Are you saying that's the reason they can't donate more to charity?

isn't it because they had hefty bills to pay like... campaigning?

Are you saying that's the reason they can't donate more to charity?

ask them. Obama's donating Nobel Prize money isn't good enough for you?
