You are not supposed to use your kids SSI to pay your bills. That's not what it is for.

Water, electric, food isn't for kids?

Come on, kids are not in legal position to pay for them, the parents are. And they also need to be fed and sheltered. Who will take care of kids if they can't?

True. Some parents can can figure out to cut down like they can get rid of car that gas expenses are not cheap. BUT i know they do need a car for kids' doctor purposes. That sucks part. They can always sell the house according to OP's post stated mortgage and switch to rent apartment and many ways of cutting down on things that are unnecessary.

You can use it to pay bills. That is why you have to fill out a payee representative form. To show where the money is going, or how much you used.

The payee can use it deem neccesary for the care of the children/person.

I know. And to elaborate, the poster complaining she can't pay her bills without the kids SSI, I hope she is held accountable.

She is already denied for benefits herself, which sounds like she is lazy and using the kids money.

now this is scary! no SSI. or SSDI? I get SSI on 3 of my Minor Kids who are disabled! I have health issues and do not qualify for SSD. and am unable to work.. I depend on that SSI to pay all my bills. hubby makes min wage and It barely brings in enough to put a dent in the rent let alone the electric, water, car payment, Car ins.

I made calls to some of my bills today. and MY cell bill said They will help.. AT&T gave me till the 29 of aug to pay. and if i still have no check they will push it back farther. My Tv service said to call on aug 5th and if I still have no check they will put me off as far as they can. but my Mortage. my Water and my Electric said To bad.. its not their problem. if idont pay. I loose service. that what are theys upose to do about it.

how can they ELim. SSI when there are Thousans of ppl who Do not qualify for SSD or SS but Qualify for ssi can can't work?? are we spuose to live on the streets and loose our kids?

Children SSI checks should not be used to pay for accessories.. such as cell phones and Cable service for your TV.

I see what you are saying....

Right, we were told by SSA, that my daughter's SSI checks go for her expenses only. We took the rent, electric, water and phone and divided the total into 5 and 1/5 came out of her check. Then we put any groceries that were specifically hers on one receipt and then the family bill was again split into 5th's, after that, it paid for her co-pays at speech therapy, clothing and school supplies.

Complicated bookkeeping, but it sounds like you're doing the right things.

In my house, my daughter is the one who watches all the channels, not me, so I guess some of her SS goes towards the cable. When I suggested we cut back on what channels we receive, she protested, so yes, the cable is "hers". :giggle:

My daughter's SS is broken up this way:
Allowance (for gas, clothes, fun stuff, etc)
Car Payment - for the car she's driving
Car Insurance - for said car
Rest goes into a separate savings account which I use if need be to meet our monthly expenses. When she stops receiving her checks, whatever is left in the account will either go directly to her or to make a extra payment on her car.

I also, sometimes, get $$ from the mom & dad of the girl who is living with us. When I do, I put it in an envelope. If the girl needs something, I tell her to take some $ out of the envelope. If she gets reimbursed from one of her parents, she usually puts it back in the envelope. When she turns 18, I will give her whatever is left in the envelope. Sure, I could use the extra $$, but I don't consider it mine and as long as I can afford the basics for her (her sharing what we already buy), then I won't use the $.

Half of SSI for beer and cigarettes. The other half for gambling. :P

That is the difference.. You see it as her money, not yours. :)

I don't smoke or gamble. I only indulge in an occasional beer. Quality before quantity. :)
