I understand you don't like politic

No, I just don't like republicans and right wing parties.

I have a much interest in politic and they are important to my life.

If it does get delayed. I wonder what the poor folks that rely soley on the Social Security checks gonna do.

I surely hope that they waive late fees and such, on rent and bills.

If that happens, MIL, mother and I will all be S.O.L.

I have to inform my Grandparents. I think they recieving SSI and army checks.

Without any questions? You trust Congress that much?

I didn't say it was a joke.

Apparently budget and debt concerns are scare tactics only when they come from Republicans.

Why do people always have to take that this route! It does not solve the problems facing the whole country! GOP and Democrats depending on getting a SS check on 8/3 are going to be really hurting if their check it late! I heard Obama say the checks could be late if debit ceiling isn't agreed on.

No, stories about missiles and terrorists are scare tactics that come from the Republicans.:laugh2:

Exactly. This is a bipartisan issue, but some have to make it all about party no matter what.

The checks might be delayed but don't worry, they will arrive. It is just politics, a power play between the two parties. Don't forget that the Federal Reserve is a private bank and is not part of the government at all. They buy up bonds from the government and sell them later to recoup their investment, and if they just tear up those bonds, they would just be destroying a liability the government had to itself and get nothing in return, which is just plain bad business sense. The Federal Reserve is on the ropes now, and I am cackling in anticipation. Screw them.
The news keep saying that every month the government pays more on its interest payment of the debt than they pay out to us in social security payments. The solution is clear: stop borrowing from the phony Federal Reserve, since after all, only Congress has the authority to create and print money.

Wirelessly posted (sent from a smartphone. )

The govt and the media always say ss checks for elderly folks and never seen them say anything about ssi, ssdi, etc.

My wife relies on this check each month and it pays towards bills and mortgages...I'll have to contact the bank and inform them of the situation and see what they can do. Most banks aren't that forgiving when it comes to mortgages. :(

Yiz

SSI and SSDI are part of Department of Treasury then they will affected of debt ceiling isn't increased, also they are under SS Act too, including Medicare and other welfares.

Also, unlike at bank that they do issue an warning about default on loan or mortgage but for government, it is different and situation could change in way to other way.

MIL is really pissed about all this. She is moving money from all kinds of account to keep a decent balance in her checking account, then will have to move money back into the other accounts when she finally gets her check. At least she has the money to cover herself. I rely on mine for auto insurance, car payment and phone payment.

Who in this thread has actually heard from SSA regarding their benefits?

IMHO, hearing from the SSA is more relevant than what's in the media.

I have a minor problem with some of the terms. My mother and MIL both receive social security retirement. Mom draws on herself (more money) and MIL draws from FIL's (she never worked). What are those called?

Daughter received a disability that was dependent on what hubby and I earned. She got it after extensive testing. 3 years later, she had to go through tesing again and was dropped. What was that called.

I am on a disability due to my inability to work. I went through testing mandated by SSA for both hearing and my legs. I am now on disability and do not have to have anymore testing and have it for life. What is this called?

I know there is SSI, SSDI and I'm not sure what else. Sorry, but I am so confused.

Yup but USA need to be defaulted to be heard.

Just wait til after August 2 and we will find out.

My MIL thought she heard on news today (I could not confirm) that all SSI and SSDI checks were going to be eliminated and there would be no more disability pay-outs. I told her I had not heard that, and now she thinks I need to try and find work. I reminded her that I did and can't get anything around here. Has anyone else heard this?
