Questions and debates about blindness:

If one knows how to make a correction to refute their statement (and to have a valid statement to support their piece) without making a direct attack, then the accusations won't happen. :)

Quite true, Jolie.

It just feels that way, i dont see why the issues of blindness could not have been addressed in Hear Again's, Nika's, or my ask me threads.

what's the difference though? Why not combine all in one thread? Each of those thread (Hear Again, Nika, and yours) are not largely related to blindness. It would be bothersome for people who are not interested in personal details and they have to skim thru to find blindness-related posts.

Because we all have a different perspective on blindness. We all have different levels of sight, and all have different experiences related to our blindness.

oh? then welcome aboard! :cool2: For now.... I don't have any question at this moment but I'm sure many other ADers do. This thread got off a really rough start so I think ADers are scared to ask for now.

Why be scared? There are no stupid questions other than "cover up your good eye and tell me how many fingers i am holding up."

I am pretty sure they are all answered. In recent days the blind have completely overshadowed the deaf at AllDeaf.

how is it any different from our deaf-related threads? There are tons of different answers for same question - different perspective, different levels of hearing, and different experiences.

That is exactly, seriously, exactly what I was going to say. All of us deaf people have different perspectives, different hearing, different experiences, different lives, different everything. There is no comparison between two deaf people, and equivantly, there is no comparison between two blind people.

Thats how the blind 'community' is different from the Deaf community, we see blindness as an challenge to be overcome by blindness related techniques *or at least i do*. It really is not a big deal.

Many of us deaf people have seen some life experiences be a challenge as well. How does being blind make you different from the deaf community in relation to challenges? Sure, the challenges may be different, but it doesn't make you more or less superior than us. And vice versa.

Yeah. So there! And I feel the same.:ty:

Allright, Guys --

I think we've all had a rough start in this thread and in fact, we've had a rough day today as well.

Let's please refrain from making such jokes/sarcasm that are considered to be going over the line.

If one wants to discuss about anything that is related to blindness, Do it here in this thread. There are too many other threads that are related to blindness. I don't think we need any more other threads that are added to this.

This thread is for a reason - It is to ask and to find out how the purpose of a deaf/blind person can educate us with their experiences, so and on.

Thank You.

Actually, I have been wondering the same thing, I have heard of so many deaf people being afraid of blind people, I just dont understand why that is, I personally think deaf and blind people could band together on access issues.

which is why this thread is good idea! I feel we can bridge the gaps between us and come to mutual understanding in here. With that - deafies won't have to be afraid of initiating conversation with blind people but we are unsure of how just as much as hearies are unsure of how to communicate with deafies.

I think jolie should take out of sweeping broom and sweep away bunch of posts not pertinent to this thread and angry posts. almost 4 pages and it's not off to good start.

Out of curiousity, where have you heard that? Like, what environments were you in? I ask only because I've never been afraid of blind people, and I don't know of any deaf friends who are. It's a new one on me.

I agree Jiro. BTW, no one answered my question, why is it that so many deaf people say they are afraid of blind people?

I've heard it from several people, and seen it at deaf club when i go, people see the white cane, and make a three foot circle.
