Questions and debates about blindness:

Hear Again, Nika, Dreama,

Do yall ever have a lot of eye pain? Why? and what do you do about it?

the only time i experience eye pain is when i have migraines. (2-3 migraines/week). i take 100mg of imitrex and the pain is gone within 15 minutes. in addition, i have dry eye where my eyes tear up and become red and inflamed. for that i take prescription eye drops on a daily basis. i also have year round allergies which make my eyes very irritated. aside from that, i really don't have any problems with my eyes.

I'm sorry about your migraines, dry eyes, and allergies.

thanks, typeingtornado. out of all 3, i think migraines are the most bothersome to me although when hay fever hits, i'm pretty miserable too. oh well.

I'm sorry, but migraines SUCK! I ask the question i asked because i have been having problems with strain lately.

dreama,

is psychosomatic blindness the same as functional or cortical blindness?

What does cortical blindness mean?

Basically they don't know what is wrong since they can't find anything wrong with the eyes themselves.

cortical blindness is when a person has a lack of visual functioning in spite of the fact that they have anatomically and structurally intact eyes. the cause of cortical blindness is thought to be a lack of cortical functioning (i.e. the visual cortex of the brain is non-functional).

I don't know. What does optic nerve and occipital lobe?
What would those tests consist of?

Testing the optic nerve *the cord that connects your eye to your occipital lobe* would just mean going to a lo vision specialist and them taking a picture.

Testing your occipital lobe *the part of your brain that makes sense of what your eyes see* i dont know how they do it, but i am pretty sure it can be done, because i have met people that have problems with the occipital lobe.

Thanks for explaining about that. How would they test it?

I think it's differant then psycosomatic blindness. As Psycosomatic blindness is where a person THINKS they are blind. But really they aren't.

The question is wether It is still Psycosomatic since I've only had a standard tests so far which said the eyes themselves were in good working order. The second lot of standard tests I had last september didn't even work because the eye doctors wouldn't proceed when my eyes wouldn't open. I had terrible migranes and eye strain for 4 days after that experience.
