Proccessor falling

Hello all I'm a new user.

Was implanted 17 days ago and activated a week ago!!I have the Cochlear Freedom.

Problem is that the proccessor keeps falling off my ear quite a lot , and since the operation is still fresh , I don't have any feeling at my ears yet..

Tried the mic lock that comes with the BTE but I can't fit it over the mic , tube's too tight!
 
Welcome to AD! :) You might want to try a hearing aid earmold. This is what I use (mine is a skeleton earmold) when I want to keep my processors in place. Hope this suggestion helps -- and congratulations on your activation! :)

If you read my blog I had the EXACT same problem.

Here is what I did. I used the SnugFit that came with my box of toys. I know it's a bit annoying, but it does the job. I also used the longer ear hook to help grip it tighter.

Over time, your ear will get used to the weight, AND the coil cord will start to curve to the direction of where your implant is. I suspect that this was the issue, because it's so rigid and straight when you first use it...so it's trying to "straighten" itself out, hence pushing the processor off the ear.

If this STILL doesn't work, here's a little niffy thing that my fiance did. He cut off a small strip of rubber band, and had it taped on to the processor of where it meets the ear. The friction from the rubber band help keep this in place.

For about 2 months, my processor finally was able to stay put. :-D So, I feel for you!!

Congrats on your activation! Huggies are okay, but too small for Freedom processor.
 
Hi vivie... I am due to be implanted very soon with freedom. Warm Welcome to the site. I am also new.

Huggies is good idea but u can get smaller hook. When I went in for the devices choice meeting and tried the freedom, AB and MedEL, Found the freedom most comfy (and practical for my lifestyle) but the hook was big on me. I asked my Audiologist to order smaller hook in time for my switch on and some Huggies. Obviously i haven't tried it yet so can't comment on that but just to let you know that you can get smaller hook.

U are lucky to be activicated 10 days post op.... here in UK it's between 4 to 6 weeks! eeekkk! The silence would drive me crazy!

I wish you best of luck! Pretty much the only reason why it takes a bit longer is that it takes time for the swelling to go down. Some audiologist rather wait until the swelling goes down and better magnet to magnet attachment. Others wait because they don't want the strong magnet to cause irritation issues because you would need a stronger magnet when you start, then as the swelling goes down, you need a weaker magnet. That can get a bit annoying for audiologists.

Every audiologist has prefrences and differences. There was one person that was activated 4 days later. I couldn't imagine because I was still very sore!

I never had the SnugFit , although I know what it is...maybe I will order it from the audi..here , it's sold only for the kids!my ears are kind of smallish anyway..

Hey that rocks!! I've been thinking of buying the EarGear , because I got irritation ..right now the BTE 's hanging from my glasses..I look very funny :giggle: Is that any good? I live in Greece and it's quite humid !

I also look over for something useful , as I have an present prepaid charged card and thought I'd cover some of the CI expenses..so far I've ordered a 60 pack of batteries..

Here everything is too expensive ,so I try to find everything online..is there any site except Cochlear to order the Snugfit?Cochlear site is really problematic for me..

I was pretty sore , but at first had bandages on..

Now I'm more sore as scar and everything is exposed and the friction makes my ear go pretty red!everybody asks me why my ear is red if the scar is at the back of the ear..:laugh2: also BTE gets a bit warm , and that gets the ear warmer and redder...cherry red...I think the spandex EarGear will solve the problem..my HA never got warm..but again , I never had been operated there before..

You're very lucky though to go bilateral..here,that is not possible at all!!:hmm:

Ask your audi for snug fit. Better to try than buy. I had snug fit with my box, so it just happened to come with it. Most likely you would wear it for a little while until your ears and coil is adjusted just right to conform. Think of it as breaking in new shoes. :)

For your scar irritation, you can try to get some soft stickers that are made for corns on your feet or whatever, and stick it on the processor and have the soft part on your scar. Over time, it will get better.

Don't forget to use your Dry & Store nightly for humid environments. :-D

I can emphasize with you in regards to hearing aid earmolds. I'm also someone who experiences constant infections because of them and only use earmolds when absolutely necessary.

Audie told me to use it once a month..but I use it almost every night ( last night was too tired to remember do it) and I'm sure I've skipped another one..I just don't remember which..and you're lucky your insurance covers replacement ones..:D here nobody does..

I will ask for it , and probably buy it as my job is looking after toddlers and I play with them often..so, I predict lots of horsing around! I also am looking for a Kaci Bear for the steady few I look after , so they'll better understand the change..they often asked about my HA and the magnet now looks to them like a toy..they're having fun pulling it off and putting it on again :giggle: I get zapped plenty! They dont touch the BTE as it's familiar like my HA , they ask where the earmould is though. So the magnet is really puzzling them..and they said I have some 'chocolate' in my ear and my hair..( Guessing which color I chose eh? :giggle: )

Tomorrow I have college , so I have to find a way to stick it .. :roll: I'm scared of losing it..will try the miclocks again..

I've read that one up for the moleskin.I have some new bottoms and I will cut them into my size and the cut outs are pretty enough to do what you suggest! :cool2:
So many thanks for the instant replies. Although nobody told if he uses Ear Gear or not..I'd like some feedback on it as I'm thinking of buyin them for holidays, dad's a fisher and I help a lot in summer I know it's water splash free the BTE , but I'm looking ways of securing it if possible :roll: Not planning to dunk it or anything anyways , just be on the safe side! my insurance does not cover replacement if lost or spoiled or anything :eek2: and it's pretty expensive to replace it..

I also asked some friend from my country about the rechargeable option ( budget too tight for having disposables..sadly here aren't given as an option..you have to pay extra for them! a whopping 800 euros..do the math..:shock: ) and insurance does not reimburse for disposables..only for surgery and start equipment..later it leaves you high and dry..:roll:

I also I'd like to learn anything else about CI's that I should not and don't know yet..

Try wearing it the way our daughter has been wearing her Ci since she got them.. on your shoulders....

Vivie - if you ARE active and stuff...I would stick it out just a little bit longer. Cochlear came out with Adult size Snug Fit for the more active users.

Once a month?! Yeah, I was told to do it almost every night...interesting.
 
I changed the earhooks on my Freedom to the smallest size and that stopped it from falling off.

Also - when I'm active, or doing something where I sweat a lot, I use Cloggy's method and put my CI on my shoulder in a little pouch I sewed and use a longer coil.
 
Did you try seeing an audiologist or specialist? Perhaps, they can help you?

I'd very much like that adult SnugFit..is there any way to buy it ?

Last night I ordered the EarGear protectors..better be on the safe side than sorry!! :cool2: the cordless ones though..has anyone tried the corded ones?

As for the pocket one..it's a good solution..only thing is that I'm really crap in sewing..I always pay for fixing anything on my clothes :D

I also do not have longer coils!! should I ?

You would need the long coils. Noidea how much they cost.
As for the pocket: I used cut-off fingers from a glove, and pin them down with a safety-pin. Works well.
Anyway, it would solve some of your problems....
 
Well my problem was sort of solved that afternoon....:giggle:

I haven't mentioned it before , but I have really thick and shoulderblade long hair..and wavy too..usually I anchor them up due to the heat..

Was feeling too depressed from all this tinnitus and decided to go get an modern haircut..:shock: the hairdresser also made them less thick..and ta-da..magnet not falling anymore ( it fell half of the time and was going to order stronger magnet..) and BTE is really in position..still irritating scar though..
I cut them like a boy in the back , and long till my chin at the front..how do you call that haircut?
it seems to have done the trick!!
These pockets are quite useful and I have some gloves that I don't use anymore and they're not wool..will cut a finger and see how that works for when I do outdoor activities..

I am quite active however with me looking after kids in the daytime ( in a few days' time will go back..stopped for the supposed exams , and I had the surgery too.. ) so I will look for the adult SnugFit..

Tinnitus though is still persisting..is that common to CI people?

Tilted Pudding Bowl haircut??? :lol:

I expect tinntius would be there in the early stages of using the implant... it'll subsides eventually.
