Poll: Growing number incorrectly call Obama Muslim

President Obama earned big money last year and gave more than most to charity, but his second in command was a bit tight-fisted when it came to digging in his own pocket for donations.

Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and his wife, Jill, earned $333,000 in 2009, and gave $4,820 -- 1.44 percent -- of that to charity in cash or in-kind donations, according to their newly released tax forms.

Estimates by charitable organizations show that most givers donate between 3 and 5 percent of their income.

Mr. Obama and first lady Michelle Obama exceeded that range. The first couple gave 5.9 percent -- or $329,000 -- of their $5.5 million of income to charity in 2009.

The Obamas' largest contributions to charity were $50,000 to CARE, a poverty-based organization, and the United Negro College Fund. Mr. Obama also donated his $1.4 million Nobel Prize money, which he gave to 10 charities.

The president's books, "Dreams From My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope," generated the majority of the Obamas' income.

The first couple paid nearly $1.8 million in federal income tax and $163,303 in Illinois income taxes.

The Bidens paid $71,147 in federal income taxes, $12,420 in Delaware income taxes and $1,477 in Virginia income taxes.

These 2 rich Democrats gave less than 10% to charity last year. Disgusting.

but democrats support more government assistance and social programs to help with poor people?

More government assistance......government being the key word. Republicans prefer charities where the poor actually get the money rather than wasting money on red tape.

I never ask for charities and I feel that charities alone may not enough, it is just in my thought, that what I means. I just donated some of my old clothes and used items, of course.

I raised from middle class family and never been life into poverty in my life until I turned in adult and had more issues with my parent that resulted in kick out in 4 years ago.

Yup, government assistance sucks, IMO but better than no money because life really need money to support.

We have spent literally trillions of dollars in social programs over several decades and still the poor gets the shaft or that they are strung along and are overly and forever dependent on government support rather than helping bootstrap themselves for a change.

Kokonut is right, President Bush gave the most money of any President to Africa and AIDS research.

The bailout money Obama spent went to rich corporations, not the poor.

It's the whole red tape thing that makes it so inefficient with the govt.

Yup, I live on SSI right now and currently full-time student, along with state VR support on tuitions and books.

Do you know that I will transfer to Gally in Spring/Fall 2011?

Economy may not recover in a few years. In fact, it may take several years or maybe, never but slowly spiral downward. Using FDR's example the economy had to take several years for it to recover.

but.... war profiteering during Bush Administration. didn't you see dozens of private defense contractors? Did you see where our money went during war? why were we paying private security force 5-10x more for the same job that our soldiers can do?

and giving private corporations a blanket access to highly-classified materials? :ugh:
