Orlando, Florida (CNN)Approximately 20 people are dead inside Pulse, a gay nightclub, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said Sunday morning, just hours after a shooter opened fire in the club. At least 42 people have been transported for medical treatment, he said.

Police have shot and killed the gunman, Mina told reporters.
"It's appears he was organized and well-prepared," the chief said, adding that the shooter had an assault-type weapon, a handgun and "some type of (other) device on him." Law enforcement sources told CNN that the device, which was strapped to the suspect, was possibly explosive, but authorities don't know if it was real or not.

A canine unit indicated there were explosives inside the suspect's car as well, the sources said.
At least nine officers were involved in the shootout, Mina said. Several coroner vans were seen traveling toward the nightclub.

One officer suffered an eye injury when a bullet struck his Kevlar helmet, said Danny Banks, special agent in charge of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Orlando bureau. The helmet saved the officer's life, Banks said.

The shooter is not from the Orlando area, Mina said.
Orlando authorities said they consider the violence an act of domestic terror. The FBI is involved. While investigators are exploring all angles, they "have suggestions the individual has leanings towards (Islamic terrorism), but right now we can't say definitely," said Ron Hopper, assistant special agent in charge of the FBI's Orlando bureau.

The mayor just said 50 people are dead now and 53 injured.

Prayers goes to the victims and their families.

the more it changes, the more it remains the same.
damn
RIP to the fallen

im curious why their was not any one armed their to engage the gunman?

either working for the club or club goers that where armed?
wonder how long he was pickin off the victims before the cops showed up?

it sucks
but when a guy decides to mass murder there really are very few options anyone can do to prevent it.

besides take him out as soon as possible

well
at least he didnt pick a school for of kids...

(shakes head)

In Florida, it is illegal to carry in bars where 50% of their revenue is from alcohol. It was a gun free zone.

i understand why the father would state what he states.
no one wants a mass murderer for a son, let alone if he did it for his religion that the father also shares.

but when people state things such as "nothing to do" (with religion) in regards to deeds such as this, they are really stating they just refuse to consider it
which is a very real and serious plm.

so this guy first engaged armed police outside the club. then made his way inside.
that is a huge failure of the cops, besides getting overtime for standing outside a club they should actually you know...engage and more to the point stop, those trying to kill people.

why the first cop didnt needs to be looked at

perhaps he was outgunned or none of his rounds hit the target or he choked who knows.
but thats a huge failure for the cops

cops are after all there for a reason. (besides overtime pay)

The key here is mental illness and allowing someone who is mentally ill to get their hands on firearms. The shooter was obviously mentally ill since someone who is sane doesn't go into a nightclub and shoot over 100 people. Unfortunately, we now have to wait for the next mentally ill person to go into someplace and start shooting and try to kill more people to become famous for the wrong reason and with all the coverage all the TV stations are giving the shooting, we probably won't have to wait long.

was this guy mentally ill?

sorry to break it to you, but people cold bloody murder each other every damn day,
and those who do are not mentally ill.
they do it for reasons and motives, like money, revenge, turf, power, politics and indeed and very true
their faith (what ever that may be)..

rational people in control of their senses and faculties who are not mentally ill do kill for their ideology, their government, their state, their prophet, their agenda, to spread terror, so on so forth,

"obviously mentally ill" is shallow way to even try to come to terms with events such as this, and only betrays that your not aware or are refusing to see the danger they pose

perhaps you will next suggest that terrorism its causes and affects, history and reasons should be studied and handled by ,mental health departments, rather then political science departments in academia....

i do admit the study of history would be easier..

"they're all batshit crazy..."

should be well enough to earn a A....
or

maybe we shouldn't..

and instead ask serious questions that demand serious answers...

was this motivated by his faith?
was this motivated by its radical political ideology?

this needs to be seriously addressed

if you have any evidence at all that mickymouse or rogerrabbit told him to...

by all means

make us aware of it

if not
your full of it

There's no evidence that the shooter was mentally ill. One can be perfectly sane and still commit evil acts.
