'Open Carry' Law Contoversy: Gun Owner Cited

I don't really read this entire thread- I read your latest posts about going to store at 1 am in the morning. I just remember a year ago, a woman at Whole Food in Plano, Texas got mugged badly. She was returning a shopping cart at around 7 pm or so, and a guy asked her if she needs help. He then grabbed her and threw her on the ground between parked cars, beating her face. He took her diamond necklace, and a expensive ring. A car pulled up, and the guy jumped in, then took off. No one caught them. While it happened, she did yell for help, but no one answered. This woman is very lucky.

What could the purpose of carrying a gun into a grocery store possibly be?

I thought the same thing when I saw a guy strapped walking through the grocery store.

to avoid the heat in summers in phoenix, I would shop late at night.

Then I read in the paper about someone getting robbed in the parking lot at the same store.

You have a right to defend yourself

For the sake of argument, which shotgun will you get? And what kind of shell will you use for home defense? Will you partake in shooting competition regularly and training? And how will it be stored when you go to bed? And will your intention be shoot to kill in case of home invasion?

You know what? You've dodged so many of my questions and not answered any of my refutations on this thread, other than to say, "my ranger friend/cop I met in store/video I watched on internet told me . . ." So, "for the sake of argument," I'm done answering your questions when you won't answer mine.

And lastly, all I said was "I am thinking about getting a shotgun for home defense." I haven't even made the decision yet. If and when I do, I will worry about the other things.

elementary question, think harder, open your mind more.

better question, should I carry gun to grocery store in bad area of town at 1 a.m. in the morning?

So, do you? And if you feel you are so frightened of a grocery store in a bad area of town at 1 a.m., find another grocery store and a different time to do your grocery shopping. People should not be put at risk just because you are afraid.

Sure, you have a right to defend yourself. You don't have the right to put others at risk.

So, in that robbery, was anyone killed?

Exactly.

I have heart of eagle scout, and I take motto "Be prepared" very seriously. It rarely fails me, that why most of things turns out good for me.

its like leaving behind a writing instrument if you have feeling that there will be pop quiz in class.

That is one of the weakest justifications for carrying a weapon that I have ever seen.:laugh2:

And alive.

Yes. You should. But nobody is forcing anyone to carry or not. A responsible person would realize that ....usually .... When a person needs the police, they are .... Usually, not around. So personal safety is an individuals responsibility.

A true vigilante attitude. The very thing that the majority of this country finds so distasteful in rabid right to be armed individuals.

Is it just me... but seems like people RARELY utilize their CCW license?

I find it somewhat amusing for people to fight to death to be able to carry weapons but don't actually do it most of the time.

It also even seems to me that CCW peeps find it weird for an individual to carry a gun all the time. So... they find it weird that an individual is 100% utilizing the right to bear arms.. the very thing they are fighting for?

Are you then claiming it is not a personal individual responsibility to be safe?

And where is this majority that feels it is not their responsibility? In Oakland?

Doncha love irony?

You don't have to pack heat to be safe or responsible. In fact, packing heat reduces both.

I don't think it's just you. I live in Virginia and according to OpenCarry, it's a gold star open carry. In all the years that I've lived in VA and NC (a traditional open carry state), I have seen exactly one person who wasn't a cop or solider openly carrying his gun and he was an old guy carrying a rifle in downtown Richmond many years ago.

The shopper was beat up.

Just because you carry a gun doesnt mean youre putting people at risk. It is the criminals that force you to use it, that are putting people at risk.

I have been mugged/beatup, and it has left me blind in my left eye. Even if they dont kill you, you can be permanantly maimed. No one has the right to threaten or harm you, and you have the right to defend yourself.

If youre lucky enough to kill the perpetrator, youre doing society a favor. Cuz its more than likely they will continue their criminal behavior.

See, that is the kind of vigilante attitude that is scary about people carrying weapons.

its not scary its the truth. Look at the people that bernard getz shot. They ended up in prison. One of them for rape.

If you charge a police officer with any kind of potentially deadly weapon like a baseball bat, they will just shoot you. Theyre not gonna screw around with pepper spray or try and reason with you.

Depends on the circumstances. Officers are not supposed to shoot to kill except in extreme situations. But you said something about getting lucky and killing a robber. That is just too extreme. Even our justice system does not use the death penalty for robbery.

People like Bernard Gets are few and far between. You think stuff like that happens more often just because it is publicized and spread all over national media. Things like that are very, very rare. But when you think that everyone you encounter is a Bernard Getz you are more likely to shoot someone uneccesarily.

You misconstrue what carrying a gun means. Its not about pretending to be Charly Bronson looking for trouble. Its about defending yourself and being WILLING to shoot.

Dumbest thing to do would be to pull out a gun and not use it. Then the criminal has a chance to take it away from you and kill you with it.

Jillio, your attitude of being passive and at the mercy of the criminal is naive. How is surrendering to the attacker and hoping they wont harm you a good idea?
