okay ad'ers. ask me anything (but be nice! :))

thanks for answering my question. i think it's unfortunate that those kinds of attitudes exist. we're all human beings and one disability (or type of wheelchair/scooter) shouldn't define who we are.

I wholeheartedly agree. And those "ABs" (able bodied) who think they are superior need to remember they are all TABs, temporarily able-bodied. "There but for the grace of G-d go I..."

this is so true. i know whenever i tell hearing-sighted people that they could become blind, deaf, deafblind, physically disabled or mentally ill at any point in their lives, they just shrug my comment off as if they don't believe me. oh well.

And those that can be rented often aren't set up for a disabled driver.
Tell me about it. I have a relative who is a wheelchair user and I have seen her run into this problem time and time again.
When I re-create the world.....

Making some coffee, getting some paper... You ready? I'm ready. Let's start recreating. <wink>

Hey Hear Again, did you get my PM by any chance? Just want to make sure you got it.

I try to find some pieces of information about driving licence and ADHD in France. And this is pretty hard to find !!

i'll have to check my pm's again since i've been receiving so many of them as of late. if i don't respond to your last pm, i will send you another regarding what we've discussed and something that will be happening to me later today.

Thanks Hear Again :) Sorry to reply only now, but I was giving a zillon of phone calls to have my piece of information. I called the administration, zero information about ADHD and driving licence.
So at the last, I was fed up, so I took the list of the department of Savoie, I phoned two doctors and the last I did phone gave me the piece of information and some advice (getting a letter from my psychiarist which says I am able or no to drive, it will avoid me to have a psychiatric exam and the mess which will come).

So a ______________________@ rose for you :)

no problem! i hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question, but how come people with adhd aren't allowed to drive? is this by personal choice or are there specific reasons why a psychiatrist would recommend that they don't drive?

There is no dumb question ;)
They can drive, but they have (this is from what the doctor said to me) an assessment only for a few years. Methylphenydate affects vigilance and attention for people who are taking it, so that's why they want to see ADHD people once in a while.

guilia,

i just did a google search for "driver's license + adhd" and answered my own question. apparently, teenagers with adhd are at a higher risk of speeding and getting into accidents.

that makes sense. i guess i never put 2 and 2 together to realize that could be a problem. i learned something new today.

Can you give me the link please ?
Because ADHD isn't known at all from GPs who are in this kind of medical boards.
