Suppose if Obama appoints ALL qualified nominees who are also BLACK to SCOTUS, how would you feel? I'd be furious. Obama knows and he did NOT intend to make it all black as he thinks it would be WRONG!

How about if we make the entire court all female. How would you feel?

Nope. To say that race doesn't matter is to deny the existence of racism and the impact it has on minorities of all forms in this country. That is normally the stance taken by one who has been exposed to the advantages of white priviledge all of their lives, and is attempting to be politically correct by saying "See, I can't be a racist. Race doesn't matter." The reality of the fact is, race does matter, it has always mattered, and it will always matter. To deny that is to allow racism to continue unchecked.

In addition, race and ethnicity are directly tied to individual and cultural experience. That is a large portion of what makes us the person we are and gives us our perspective on life. To say it doesn't matter is to be more racist than one who says, "Of course it matters."

Are you seriously trying to tell me that you have the exact same life experience as a Latina woman? The fact that she is a Latina dictates the way she has experienced life, and therefore, is responsibible for her views of the world and the way it works. Yes, he nominated her for her experience and her views. Her experience and her views are dependent upon the fact that she is a Latina. That doesn't mean he is being racist. It means that he, and I, and many, many others, are saying that race does matter because it makes her the person she is. She wasn't nominated just because she is a Hispanic. She was nominated because her experience growing up and achieving in this country as a Hispanic and as a woman give her a viewpopint that someone who is not Hispanic and female can't have.

Exactly. The fact that she is a woman, is a Latina, and has lived with diabetes makes her uniquely who she is and is responsible for how she views life. That doesn't mean that nominating her was a racial decision. It simply means that it is a part of the whole package.
