Obama-McCain Debate Part I

MCCAIN: Well, thank you, Jim. And thanks to everybody.

And I do have a sad note tonight. Senator Kennedy is in the hospital. He's a dear and beloved friend to all of us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the lion of the Senate.

That's so tacky of him! Because Ted went home just before the debate started. Does he have to bring it up?

Um, no. Voters should follow their heads, not their hearts. Voters are selecting a President to lead their country, not a date for the prom.

I never suggest them to follow their heart to vote McCain or Obama. I really have no idea why you made an assumption.

Yeah, Liza and I discussed (maybe a different thread :dunno2:) the body language and facial expressions of both candidates. It was very telling, wasn't it?

Very true, that's what we see through in them... - we have the feeling when we look them.

Oh geez! No need to bring Ted up.

I still do not see anything where I said "heart"... Can you please point the word "heart" out where I said because I can't find it?
Most people say feelings are from the heart, meaning emotions. Where else do you get your feelings from? Your feet?

She may have meant instinct.

I see nothing wrong with making a judgment sound based on facts, shared values and instinct.

It was just another one of his diversionary tactics. It burned up time where he didn't have to answer questions.

Well, if we are going to be accurate, feelings (eg emotions) don't come from the heart. They come from the brain. The heart doesn't have anything to do with it.

Could be instinct/gut. But that's still not an intellectual decision. I don't believe fuzzy feelings should determine votes.

Are you saying that the values of a candidate are never an issue in your decision?

No. But the values of the candidate are evaluated intellectually, not emotionally.

It is your prerogative to vote based on some sort of intellectual decision. I don't want to assume what you mean by intellectual decision, since we are obviously on different pages. Can you clarify?

I don't believe people should make misinformed votes nor vote out of their integrity either. Both fall into the intellectual category, don't they?

No, I'm not trying to be physiologically accurate; I'm trying to emphasize that something as important as electing a President of our country should be based on intellectual analysis, not warm fuzzies or tingling legs.

if people make misinformed votes... that does not go to intellectual category. It's like you believing Obama is related to Osama bin Laden. If minority people vote Obama just because he's black - well that doesn't go to intellectual category either.

Intellectual Decision would be deciding on candidate whose decision process, values, experiences, etc. matches with your interest and/or with interest for America - not because you feel McCain is condescending by not looking at Obama in the eyes or Obama's young and hip or McCain's wife is scary and snobby or Obama can shoot some hoops.

He does not understand. He does not understand. He does not understand. He does not understand. He does not understand. He does not understand.
He does not understand.

"He"? Both? Yes. I agree with you.
