NYC now the safest big city!

You don't understand. The ratio would be the same if it's by per 100, 1000, or 10000. It's fine if they use it by per 100,000. It wouldn't change the ratio if they used per 10,000.

No, you don't understand either.

Jiro already corrected your post.

too bad theoretical math doesn't work in real life. It's missing a lot of variables. Clearly we have taken actions about it - that is why NYC is the safest city in USA. :cool2:

sorry to hear that you didn't like it here but that's ok.

Ratio is not theoretical it's a defined fraction term.

1/10 = 1:10
1/2 = 1:2
100 murders per 100,000 = 100:100,000

The ratio does not and cannot change when basing from a single total population figure and murder rate. If you choose by per 10,000 you'll still get the same ratio result as per 100,000 or by per 1,000.

don't try too hard :aw:

repeat after me - NYC is the safest city in USA

Kokonut, all CRIME REPORT in US are based on per 100,000, go google and research it by yourself, I mean it.

That's word all I say.

How stupid can you be?

We all know that.

1 murder per 10,000 people is the SAME ratio as 10 murder per 100,000 people.

If a town has only 1,200 people, and one murder. The ratio is 1:1200.

That would mean. 100:120,000 making that town the most dangerous town in the world. (If East St Louis doesn't beat this, I dont know what will.)

It's basic remedial math in division and fraction, Jiro. Are you telling me you do not understand what a ratio is? It doesn't matter if you use per 100,000 or 1,000, the ratio is still the same. You have fixed population number along with a total number of murders for the year, it doesn't matter if you want to describe the murder rate by per 100,000 or 1,000, the ratio simply doesn't change.

That is interesting. I never go to NYC in my whole life. I would like to visit there someday. I heard NYC is very expensive on food, nice clothes, hotel, apt mortgage.

I thought NYC is dangerous in Bronx because of gangs. How about CSI NYC?? :)

Exactly! At least somebody actually understands this very simple math concept called "ratio."

That's not what I was talking.

I said all crime report are counted based on per 100,000.

No, you make yourself looks stupid.

I already know about ratio, like I said, all crime report in US are counted on per 100,000.

You fail to understand my post.

ratio changes. population changes. so far - despite of changes, NYC has been consistent in reducing the murder rate... whereas - cities like London, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, etc. remain high on crime rate.

Interesting to say about Las Vegas, usually crime rate is rather to be counted in metro Las Vegas than in city alone due metro police.

gangs? hardly. we have #1 largest police force in USA. that explains why this city isn't controlled by organized gangs anymore. Mind you - NYC is divided by 5 boroughs. Just because Bronx is dangerous doesn't mean rest is dangerous. Oh mind you - I've been to Bronx many many many many times and I don't have any problem with it.

and no NYC is not always expensive on food, clothes, and hotel unless you hang around on rich area like Park Ave. I can show you where you can have 3 meals for $30 or less. :)

I said, again, I understand that murder rates are used by the "per 100,000." What you do not get is that it doesn't matter if murder rates by the "per 10,000" or "per 1,000,000" the ratio is still the same. Do you understand now?
