Newton Shooting BUSTED?

How did NBC "come clean"? All they did was continue to provide updates based on bits of information that was floating around mere hours after the shooting. They, like all news agencies and reporters, were just trying to be the first one out with any updated information that they heard.

The OP and some subsequent posts are very misleading - sounding as if this is new & reliable news regarding which guns were involved. If this thread was intended to point out how erroneous media can be it should have been clearer, right from the start.

Just because I said I'm glad NBC came clean doesn't mean I support NBC

I don't even watch NBC news.
Let me clarify it if you don't mind. You said that NBC came clean. It means that you believe what NBC news said when it admitted that there was no assault rifle used in Newton shooting and there were four handguns instead of two handguns at the murder scene. That's disinformation. Therefore you are wrong about NBC coming clean. And then you said, "unfortunately the damage's already done". You are right... NBC caused the damage.

As for The NY Times, it gave accurate info originally on Dec 15th so what damage did it cause?

So can we confirm that the shooter used a S/A rifle to kill them? Even the medical examiner, Wayne confirmed it.

sounds like you are speaking for me with disinformation. shame on you. :nono:

huh? why are we talking about NY Times? this thread is about NBC, not NY Times.

What do you mean can we confirm? The only way I can confirm it is if I saw it with my own eyes at the crime scene.

I'll just have to simply look for shell casings on floor and also the entry/exit wounds. 9mm casing and .223 casing are very different from each other. the wound caused by 9mm and .223 is very easy to tell.

how? by admitting their mistake.

In actuality, the whole OP contains incorrect information - from the headline stating no assault rifles were used to stating that there were four handguns used. Sure, NBC corrected one bit of incorrect information ... but with another bit of incorrect information (and again this happens all the time on all networks within moments and hours of an event as info flies around from various sources). So, I can't help but wonder what was the point of posting the videos and story at this time (in a way that it appears to be current informaton). If it was simply to point out that NBC updated their report from 2 guns to 4 handguns, then it should have been expanded to stated that they further updated their report based on news from the Sherrif as well as Chief Medical Examiner Dr. H. Wayne Carver, stating that the victims were shot multiple times with an assault rifle.

When you posted the OP, were you aware that it was old new and did not contain the current and most accurate facts regarding the weapons used?

oh am I not allowed to report NBC's mistake?

You, like anyone, are free to report what you want. What I am asking is: What is the point of reporting only a specific portion of an old multi-mistake at this time? and, When you made the post were you aware it was outdated and contained inaccurate information regarding the weapons?

What mistake? Original report that there was an assault rifle used OR its confession that there was no assault rifle used? I will still be watching you.

How do you know that it was outdated? It showed Jan 15th, 2013 (five days ago).

NBC's mistake as pointed out in OP.

Why ask me what's the point when you say I'm free to report whatever I want? That's a terrible contradiction.

and, When you made the post were you aware it was outdated and contained inaccurate information regarding the weapons?
The question is.... was anybody aware of this mistake?

The videos have been reposted on Jan 15th but that was not the original air date. To confirm this let me take a direct quote out of one of the videos itself, " ... on the 11th of December, on Tuesday of this week, ...". Also if you click on the linked title of the original OP to watch the video, when it is done you will see a series of thumbnails for videos on the screen. If you place your cursor on the picture representing the video you just watched, the original date will show up (Dec 15th). Also the video that is on the OP itself (female reporter) contains content that clearly indicates it was broadcast shortly after the shooting - ie: the gun in the trunk "has just been found in the last 1/2 hour".

NBC's mistake as pointed out in OP.

I thought that the article from the link stated that NBC confessed that there was no assault rifle used which means that originally it reported that there was an assault rifle used. So NBC thought that its original report was a mistake and then it corrected (updated) the report and said that there was no assault rifle used. Actually, the updated report is wrong.

Oh, you talked about the video which I am not interested in because I don't understand what it says :)deaf:). What about the article from the link in OP which states that NBC admitted that there was no assault rifle used? Was that recent or old?

good. I'm glad you've figured it out that it's not me who made a mistake.
