My little brother just turned 18 last November. and he will be shipped off to Fort Knox, Kentucky tomorrow. I just got off the phone with him and he seems eager and excited to go. I told him I am proud of him and also sad at the same time because when he finishes training, they will surely ship him off to Iraq. I know it will teach him discipline and he can benefit from it. Just he is, my baby brother and I'm so sad. He told me he will be trained to run the tanks. He seems like he can't wait to go to Iraq. I just hope he doesn't think it is all fun and games.

Hope he do the wise thing when he was off to Iraq.. Wish your brother a good luck training :) Hope he will come back home safe!

My uncle did went to Afghanistan for one year and came back safe, I am glad to know that he was back safe.

Yeah I know some Americans who never traveled overseas, are really excited to visit another countries. I have no idea about your brother about visiting overseas in the past. I am sure that when he is getting there, he will realize that the Iraq is wrong vacation for him.

Yeah, I'm worried about him and the basic training. My brother is the type of person that is not good with authority and will he be able to accept the badgering from the drill Sargent? Then when he completes the training and gets shipped off. Geez I have alot going through my head right now. Alot of ifs. Don't get me wrong I'm also proud of him. But worry for him at the same time. He will go to Jacksonville tomorrow and fly off to Fort Knox and then the training will begin.

He had never been overseas, much less out of the state of Florida. So he is in for a new experience .

my cousin told me that her husband training for Army in New York but i dont think her husband would plans going to Iraq or not but my cousin and her husband and their 3 children moving to NY they can transferred Army training and home also.

my brother was in US Marine Corps
Never been sent to Iraq in 1990. Whew.

Well he is there now. Wondering how he is doing. Probably getting his head shaved and getting his uniforms and shots now. He will probably not get much sleep because they will wake him up before sun up, to start the drills. I just wish him the best for now. He said he will call me if he gets a chance. IF they will allow him to.

How true...Texan Guy

My brother first tried for the Marines but they declined him due to he did not "actually graduated from High School" He has a GED. The Army took him. Makes ya wonder......

What? That's not right, I've met some Marines who has the GEDs. Strange.

Yeah, it's true about the Army during the ODS. But, right now, the Army let the Marines to fight on the "frontlines" in Iraq while the Army patrolling around the major cities. How ironic. heh

Nope my brother tried to join the Marines, He told me they declined him due to he has a GED and not a HS diploma. I don't know if they changed the rules since your friends joined.

That's weird. But at least, your brother is serving for our country. Please, send my regard to your brother. I am a brother of the combat veteran in Iraq.

I will do.. I have not heard from him since last Wednesday. He arrived at Fort Knox on Thursday.. I'm sure he is going through hell week right now. I am proud that he has joined but he just picked a hell of a time to do so.

My best wishes and gratitude to your brother. :)

Aw I probably will feel the exactly same way as you are now if my oldest son was shipped off to Iraq or somewhere and having all these "what if" running through my mind.

I'm proud of your brother, he must be one brave man. I wish him the best, in the meantime, I'll keep him in my prayers.
