I'm a bit jealous in a way babyblue, although im assuming your brother is hearing and medically cleared, but it was pretty much something since i was young that i wanted to join the military. Obviously being hard-of hearing it didnt matter my speech is good i was in decent shape, they wouldnt take me unless i had a medical waiver. However i saw 3 audiologists who declined to write a letter declaring i should be eligible because of their personal opinion about the the war in iraq, etc. So naturally i gave up even though i was ALSO told theres hard-of hearing citizens that got in with little to no problems at all. *sigh* I'll wish your brother the best though man. He'll be all right.

I know.... I'm a phony... it was an overnite camping/hiking trip with me and my Army best friend. And yes that's exactly what we wore for this trip.. plus thermo clothes - just some crazy survival training... bitterly cold.... bitterly cold..... we nearly got frost-bite but it was a learning experience.

Imagine basic training in snow.

My brother never seen snow til he went to Fort Knox.

LOL bet your survival trip was fun though.

Where will he be deployed at in Iraq?

He will first go to Germany for about two weeks then to Kuwait for a week then go to Mosul, Iraq

My brother told me it is the second largest city in Iraq

So he will be there for 12 to 15 months

I am on my way home now.

It was tough. Knowing I will not see my brother again for a least a year.

He is married now. He was so handsome in his uniform! I cried like a big ol' baby.

Sigh....

Hi Babyblue,

Just saw this post, glad your brother is ok, i hope your family are all proud of him to serve his country, I would be, the troops don't make the policies they just carry them out and proudly too.
My own brother served alongside the US in both gulf wars, he went in a boy and emerged as a man.
ps he's yet to return the armoured vest the US troops gave him when they realised the bloody british didnt give him any body armour, that ws good of them, alot of banter and taking the piss but it was all on good terms.

lang may his lum reek babyblue

Got an email from my brother. He is ok!

im ok im in kuwiat i made it here ok i would call you but its like 3:00am over ther we are 9 hours ahead of you the plane ride was ok long but ok we are flying into iraq xmas day that kinda sux ya kno its really cold an dusty over here kuwiat city is very beautiful at night when we flew in but in the day you can see the trash an all the cars that have been destroyed its littered with trash and scrap metal it smells like sulfphur here they were not lieing when they said it stinks

This is what he wrote it is not the full email. But enough to tell.

I just feel that it is strange he will arrive to Iraq on Christmas day.

I'm just excited to hear from him.

They do allow them internet acess which I thought was pretty cool.

I'm glad your brother is doing well. Yes, the internet access is a great thing. It allows our troops to stay connected to home and loved ones so they are not so isolated. I'll be thinking of you and your brother during the holidays.

It is good to know that your brother is doing okay. Since he is able to have full Internet access, he can chat with you thru VP by using HOVRS Videosign or Sorenson Envision SL equipped with a webcam.

lol! I laughed about him not knowing about what winter was like. A night in Iraq is even colder...

My little brother just turned 18 last November. and he will be shipped off to Fort Knox, Kentucky tomorrow. I just got off the phone with him and he seems eager and excited to go. I told him I am proud of him and also sad at the same time because when he finishes training, they will surely ship him off to Iraq. I know it will teach him discipline and he can benefit from it. Just he is, my baby brother and I'm so sad. He told me he will be trained to run the tanks. He seems like he can't wait to go to Iraq. I just hope he doesn't think it is all fun and games.

Good luck to your brother! My brother is coming home from Iraq on wednesday.
